The fire axe is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.
Characteristics[]
A long wooden handled axe with a heavy steel head intended for firefighting use. It has a broad finely sharpened front blade and a sharp pick point on the rear of the head. Originally designed for breaking down walls and doors, like many things in the post-War wasteland, it's been repurposed as a weapon.
Compared to the bumper sword, the fire axe deals more damage per strike at a slighter higher attack speed, thus having a higher damage-per-second (DPS) value. It also costs less AP, weighs less, and shares the same caps value. Conversely, the bumper sword deals more critical hit damage, has higher durability, and requires 50 Melee Weapons and 8 Strength to the fire axe's 75 and 5 respectively.
Special attack[]
The fire axe has a special Mauler attack, which does 50% damage in V.A.T.S. at the cost of 5 more action points, but has a chance to knock down enemies (requires a Melee skill of 50).

It is possible to execute Mauler outside of V.A.T.S. (without the required Melee skill of 50 to perform the move) by initiating a power attack (hold attack button) while moving forward.
Durability[]
The fire axe can successfully strike about 995 times from full condition before breaking.
Variants[]
- Knock-Knock - a unique variant inside the Searchlight fire station at Camp Searchlight.
