A rowboat is a common vessel, propelled by oars, found around waterfronts and docks on inland waters in Appalachia.

They are also situated on beaches, dried lakes, and in both boathouses and garages. Some are towed by other vehicles on a flatbed trailer. The boats have three bench seats, and some have an attached rudder. Rowboats can be found with identifiable words written on the back, such as in New Gad, where a pair of rowboats are labeled "one" and "two."
