We had no choice but to leave the Capital Wasteland. Vance and the others did not believe Javier was one of us. Family is bonded by blood, and only blood, so any question of its purity would serve to divide. I could not defy the others, but I also could not leave the boy.
So we left, taking only the words of the founder. It has been ten years since. The boy is now a man.
He does not always understand our ways, but he obeys the creed. Not by blood, but by choice. There is power in that. If only the others could see.
For now, we travel the Wasteland, searching for a home. We have kept our food supply at a manageable level, thanks to a scavenger we met on the way, Lucia. She has the energy and verve that we lack from years of traveling. She reminds me of my younger self, such is her hunger.
After finding the packs we required at the hospital, she suggested we check the newspaper logs at the Boston Bugle for classified ads on housing. All this time on the road, I've longed for a place to call home, somewhere to start a new Family.
It seems we're finally on track to find that place, and possibly, gain a new member in the process.
