Capitalizing of "the" as part of names[]

There seems to be no rule here whether to capatilize "the" as part of names like "the Commonwealth" or "the Institute". Common practice seems to be to write it lowercase mid-sentence, but it may be worth to formalize/discuss it. --Alfwyn (talk) 17:06, February 24, 2016 (UTC)

Is capitalized if it is part of an official title, such as the printed title of a published book. And when the term, referencing something other than a tangible physical thing, doesn't work without "the," such as "The Institute." In this case, I think "The Commonwealth" should be capitalized as well. For instance, it's not just a commonwealth, it's THE Commonwealth, so as to refer to a particular instance of the term, designating it separately form other instances (there can be other commonwealths across the world). I think otherwise it is up to the writer. But that's just my opinion. Maybe that helps. HalloweenWeed (talk) 17:57, February 24, 2016 (UTC)
It is "the United States" and "the United Nations" though, even it's not just some united states/nations. I guess it boils down to whether "the" is part of the "official" name. If I look on the map ingame outside special regions, it displays just "Commonwealth". Similar Institute bottled water has just "Institute" printed on it. --Alfwyn (talk) 18:29, February 24, 2016 (UTC)

( Will depend on each case. Looking through the string tables, when not starting a sentence, it's...

  • "the Commonwealth" (always)
  • "the Minutemen" (always)
  • "the Railroad" (always)
  • "the Institute" (always)
  • "the Brotherhood [of Steel]" (except in one instance)
  • "the Forged" and "The Forged" are both common
