DIA
The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) was a pre-War intelligence agency of the United States. The DIA was an external intelligence service specializing in defense and military intelligence. Monitoring foreign powers and non-state actors, he ostensibly military agency evolved to be a powerful intelligence organization of the Department of Defense, operating secret facilities across the United States, especially in high tech locales like Boston. The agency worked with and included members from various branches of the U.S. military, including the U.S. Navy. As an intelligence agency, the DIA's activities were classified. More than that, many DIA facilities were black sites, never officially existing, with numerous field caches hidden across the continental United States to aid field operatives.

Jaime Palabras
Jaime Palabras is a crazed ghoul in the Dunwich Building in Fallout 3. He can be found worshiping a strange obelisk in the virulent underchambers. In his youth, he made a living scavenging at a place he called "the colony." At some point during or after the 2250s, his father brought back a mysterious old tome, The Krivbeknih, from an expedition, which he believed to be valuable. They then travelled to the Capital Wasteland, hoping to sell it to the scribes of the Brotherhood of Steel chapter who had recently settled there. Failing to sell the book to the Brotherhood, Jaime's father instead vowed to return it "to its source." Following his father's trail, Jaime headed to the Dunwich Building, where he found him to have turned into a feral ghoul, only recognizing him because of the Krivbeknih laying on the ground near him.

Obelisk Dunwich
Ug-Qualtoth is a mythical character revered as a supernatural entity by some in the wasteland, variously described as an eldritch being and a forgotten god. An altar dedicated to the worship of this being, called the Dunwich Obelisk, resides in the virulent underchambers of the Dunwich Building in Fallout 3. Ug-Qualtoth is also the subject of worship by the swampfolk in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout. Little is known about who or what Ug-Qualtoth actually is. Most information regarding the figure is shrouded in layers of religious zeal, insanity, and mutation. The portrayal and context of Ug-Qualtoth parallels several elements of the Lovecraft Mythos by H. P. Lovecraft.

FO01 NPC Lieutenant N
A cybernetic organism, more commonly known as a cyborg, is any biological organism (human, ghoul, super mutant, dog, etc.) whose physical or mental abilities are extended beyond normal limitations by either electronic, mechanical or robotic elements built into the body (i.e. implants). In the Fallout series, humans, ghouls, super mutants, and dogs have all been seen with cybernetic modifications. While the use of prostheses has waned because of insufficient surgical knowledge post-Great War, those with a functional Auto-Doc, such as the Followers at the New Vegas medical clinic or Vault City's clnic under Dr. Troy, can still run the operation procedure to perform implant surgery.

Ulysses profile
Ulysses is a courier and former Frumentarius of Caesar's Legion. In 2281, he was one of six couriers hired by Victor to carry strange packages to the Strip North Gate, but his delivery was left to the Courier after Ulysses' mysterious disappearance. He is the only unmutated survivor of the disaster at the Divide, and he blames the Courier for causing the disaster itself. Consequently, Ulysses is the primary antagonist of the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road. Ulysses was originally going to be a comapnion in the base game but was cut; he is also mentioned in Dead Money, Honest Hearts and Old World Blues.

FO02 NPC Sulik
Sulik is a tribal warrior from the Primitive Tribe and a possible companion in Fallout 2. As of 2241, Sulik is in Klamath in search of his sister who he thought was captured by slavers. A tall, muscular tribal, Sulik is a warrior who has heavily decorated his body with tattoos, various forms of primitive piercing, and peppering of "dude" into his speech. Despite outside perceptions, Sulik has a confident, composed demeanor and offers surprising amounts of insight into the affairs of the wasteland. This may be due to his innate intelligence and talents, communing with spirits, or a combination of the two. Sulik prefers to fight with a sledgehammer, but (even if he does not know it) is much better with a .223 pistol.

Icon disease
The New Plague is an infectious disease and socially transmitted plague which first arose in the 2050s within the United States. The epidemic became the driving force behind the Pan-Immunity Virion project that paved the way for development of the Forced Evolutionary Virus. The New Plague was a highly virulent contagion that was easily spread from person to person. The usual methods of controlling the spread of the disease were isolation and containment. West-Tek was ultimately unable to develop a cure, and control of the West-Tek Research Facility was handed over to the military in 2071. The New Plague was meant to play a much larger role in the story of Van Buren, the canceled second iteration of Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios.

Project V13
Project V13 is a name applied to two games proposed and developed by Interplay Entertainment. Chris Taylor and Mark O'Green, two of the creators of the original Fallout, were among the developers. The first incarnation of Project V13 was a proposed Fallout Online in the form of an MMORPG. However, the project ran into legal issues following Bethesda Softworks' acquisition of the Fallout IP in 2007. In 2012, the rights to an online Fallout MMO were confirmed to lie with Bethesda, and work on the project ceased at Interplay. The project attempted to relaunch as a strategy RPG separate from the Fallout series, but following an unsuccessful fundraiser, work on the project was scrapped by 2014.

STLTHBOY
The Stealth Boy is a personal stealth device worn on one's wrist, produced by RobCo Industries since at least 2075. It generates a modulating field that transmits the reflected light from one side of an object to the other, making a person much harder to notice (but not completely invisible). It was manufactured in a variety of portable forms, including a wrist-mounted disc and an emitter in a canvas carrying pouch worn on the belt. It was used by the nightkin elite super mutant units of the Master's Army.

Vault 13's overseer tasks the protagonist, the Vault Dweller, with finding a replacement water chip.

Couriers side by side
The Courier, also known as Courier Six, is the player character and main protagonist of Fallout: New Vegas. Before taking contract to deliver the platinum chip, the Courier had traveled across New California, on the Long 15 to Primm, to Circle Junction, New Reno, Vault City, Fort Abandon and on brahmin drives at the Big Circle. In 2281, the Courier was one of six messengers hired by the Mojave Express at Robert House's behest to deliver packages to the New Vegas Strip. In order to steal the chip, Mr. House's protégé Benny intercepted the Courier, shot them in the head twice, and buried them in the Goodsprings Cemetery. The Courier was dug out of their grave by Victor, a Securitron under Mr. House's control. They were operated on by Doc Mitchell, the resident doctor of Goodsprings, who then monitored the Courier's recovery over the following days.

FO76 Mysterious stranger disappointed in me
The Mysterious Stranger is an individual that may appear if the player character has the Mysterious Stranger perk (and also the Mysterious Savior in Fallout 76) and utilizes V.A.T.S. in combat. Appearing suddenly if one has the namesake perk, the Mysterious Stranger can be spotted throughout the wasteland in his trademark trench coat, hat, and .44 Magnum to lend a helping hand in battles. After one's V.A.T.S. sequence finishes, he will vanish. The Mysterious Stranger is being investigated by the detective Nick Valentine, who has a short log containing everything he knows about them in his office. If the Stranger kills an enemy while he is traveling as a companion, Nick will express incredulity when he appears, and frustration when he vanishes.

F76 Somnus Division 4
The Somnus Initiative, also known as Project SOMNUS, refers to a United States Navy project that started in August 2077 at Sugar Grove in Appalachia. The project focused on turning abducted Americans into sleeper agents for use in operations on domestic soil. The exploration of Somnus as a battlefield conditioning tool led to an experiment where an avid hiker was programmed with a wide range of combat tactics, mostly revolving around martial arts. She showed promise in accepting these techniques, completely unaware of her subconscious self, and promptly foiled a bank robbery in subsequent weeks using hand-to-hand combat, with no recollection of the incident. The official newsprint story attributed it to a sudden instinctual rush of adrenaline triggered by the stress of the situation. The pre-War military project is mentioned in Fallout 76.

Fo3 Enclave eyebot
The Eyebot is a model of robot that appears in every main Fallout game. Known as floating eye bots in Fallout and Fallout 2, the Eyebot is a hovering robot designed for a variety of purposes, including the spreading of propaganda, reconnaissance, and surveillance, delivering messages, and even repair and medical services. Usually found near settlements or cities, the automated bases of Hopeville and Ashton later reproduced these robots in quantity, creating dedicated repair and medical variants, showcasing the potential still remaining in the Eyebot.

Eric Baudoin
Ferret Baudoin was a developer who served as one of the game designers of Van Buren, Black Isle's canceled Fallout 3 project. For Fallout 4, Baudoin worked on content for the Railroad, Deacon and Curie, and was a senior designer on the Far Harbor add-on. For Fallout 76, he wrote a majority of the story for the Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel. Baudoin passed away on October 15, 2022; news of his passing was shared two days later, with an outpouring of tributes and memorials to him.

Chosen One Car
The Chosen One is the player character in Fallout 2 and the grandchild of the Vault Dweller. The Chosen One was trained from birth to become the tribe's champion, and, in the future, their elder. After completing their training, the Chosen One was sent out by the people of Arroyo to find a Garden of Eden Creation Kit, which was believed to have the power to make the failing village thrive once more. In the course of the Chosen One's journey, they changed the wasteland in many ways, both great and small. The Chosen One reached the Enclave's headquarters through the use of an old tanker, the PMV Valdez. They destroyed the oil rig by triggering a meltdown of its reactor, and freed both their people and the captured Vault 13 dwellers, killing both President Richardson and Frank Horrigan in the process.

HELIOS One
Operation: Sunburst was a decisive strike on the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel by the New California Republic over the control of the pre-War, Poseidon Energy solar plant HELIOS One during the Brotherhood War in 2276. Although taking place before the events of Fallout: New Vegas, the event shaped some of the game's plot elements between the two factions. The NCR successfully captured HELIOS One and consolidated their forces to secure the power plant. When HELIOS One was deemed fully captured, the NCR then attempted to pursue the Brotherhood's forces, but it was too late as the Brotherhood of Steel had vanished without a trace to Hidden Valley.

In addition to his role as director, overseeing the game's development, he also worked on all of the systems design.

Fo1 Intro GNN
Galaxy News Network was a pre-War media company with several distinct divisions, such as Galaxy News Radio. It was a pro-government network that described the execution of a Canadian insurgent by United States soldiers in power armor as "our dedicated boys keep[ing] the peace in newly annexed Canada". Although the GNN was no longer operating after the nuclear war, some of its programs continued playing on repeat for several years after the end of the war. Its radio headquarters in Washington, D.C. was used by Three Dog for his own post-apocalyptic radio show. Galaxy News Network is mentioned in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76.

AnimalFriend
Animal Friend is a perk in Fallout, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Fallout: The Roleplaying Game. The perk pacifies creatures, changing their attitude toward the player character to be neutral. In Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, the second rank makes creatures allies of the player character. However, allied creatures do not come to aid against other animals. In Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, the perk requires the player to actively look down their weapon's sights in order to pacify an animal. The perk comes with three ranks for both games. In Fallout 76, each rank increases the chance to successfully pacify an animal for a short time period, with the last rank also giving a rare chance to tame the animal.

Regulators adytum
The Regulators of Adytum are a paramilitary police force that controls the eponymous town in the Angels' Boneyard in Fallout. The Regulators exert total control over the people of Adytum, mandating strict work quotas and punishing those whose work is found wanting. Outside, the Regulators regularly prey on the Blades, with a raid about once a month to catch adult men and put them to work in Adytum. In 2161, they are led by principal Regulator Caleb. Although he derives his authority nominally from Jon Zimmerman, he and his men are their own masters.

FO4 Nuclear strikes on Boston
The Great War started and ended on October 23, 2077. A global, thermonuclear conflict that lasted just a few hours, it nonetheless resulted in the total annihilation of existing society and nation states, as well as significant disruption to the world's climate and environment through radiation, causing mutations within much of Earth's flora and fauna. The nuclear exchange was directly caused by pre-existing conflict from the Resource Wars, most specifically the Sino-American War. As a result of the bombs, the United States of America and the rest of the world were transformed into a wasteland. Even 200 years later, the consequences of the Great War can still be felt due to radiation, diseases, monsters, homicides, suicides and starvation.

Chem stimpak
Stimpaks are a type of hand-held medication used for boosting the body's own regenerative properties. They are a healing chem that appears in all Fallout games. When injected, the chem provides immediate healing of minor wounds. The superior version of this chem (albeit with some drawbacks) is the super stimpak. Although now commonly used for healing bullet holes and stab wounds, stimpaks were employed professionally through Auto-Docs (in conjunction with Med-X and other painkillers) for postoperative care and recovery. Chemists with sufficient knowledge can create new stimpaks.

Robot
Robots are machines capable of autonomously completing tasks. Depending upon the robot, these tasks may be simple or complex, and may require little human intervention or complete oversight. In the Fallout series, robots had been constructed by pre-War society to fill all niches and occupations. From general-purpose utility droids to full-fledged war machines, many of these robots still function long after the Great War, and can be found in almost any environment. Some robots will attack immediately, while others will aid in battle or remain ambivalent. Roboticists are still active in the wasteland, sometimes developing new variants based on the technology available.

Vault Boy
The Fallout Bible is a collection of documents containing background material for the first Fallout games. They were compiled, written, and released by Fallout 2 designer Chris Avellone in 2002 on Black Isle Studios's homepage. The idea, initially elaborated by community veteran Dan Wood, was to create a document that would serve as a total guide to Fallout: the history of the setting, the elements that compose it, the things that define it and the rules that guide it. It would also serve to tie off loose ends left by the games and to generally do some clearing up of things.

Logo FOV
Van Buren was the project name Black Isle Studios assigned to their version of Fallout 3. In 2003, the game was canceled and the Black Isle employees were laid off. The game was going to use an engine known as the Jefferson Engine. It was fully 3D. Black Isle Studios planned to include a dual combat system in the game that allowed for the player to choose real time or turn-based combat, due to Interplay's demands, though Joshua Sawyer had stated that the emphasis would be on the turn-based version. Co-operative multiplayer was also going to be included in the game, again because of publisher requirements. Many of the game's unused design documents have been published online since its cancellation.

F76 Once-in-a-Blue-Moon Blue Devil 2
The Blue Devil is a type of creature and cryptid found in Appalachia in Fallout 76, introduced in the Once in a Blue Moon update. It is an enigmatic species of creature that was once the subject of a cryptid legend in Appalachia. Clyde's investigation into the origins of the Blue Devil does not name a specific species, but he says that "they" used to be bred for racing and then fighting before the Great War. This continued after the bombs dropped, but Clyde has not fully determined a reason for the Blue Devil's immense size compared to other canine-like creatures. The Blue Devil has a special howl attack in which it can inflict Uncontrollable Fear to nearby players, much like the wendigo colossus and Earle Williams.

FO76 Halloween pumpkin bucket
Halloween is a holiday in the United States, celebrated both before and after the Great War. Because of the war's proximity to Halloween in 2077, many pre-War Halloween decorations can still be found littered across America, hundreds of years later. The celebration of Halloween continued after the Great War. The residents and business owners of Diamond City decorate each year on October 31, and Diamond City security will complain about working on the holiday, saying "today's Halloween, but do we get treats? Nooooo. It's all tricks, all day." Vault dwellers who wore a Pip-Boy 2000 received a Halloween greeting on the device every October 31.
