Release[]

On May 8, 2025, the season concluded filming and entered post-production, as confirmed by Walton Goggins and Ella Purnell on Instagram.[14] The second season was first announced to release in December 2025, as stated by Amazon during their upfront presentation on May 12, 2025.[5] During Gamescom 2025's Opening Night Live event, the specific premiere date of December 17, 2025, was announced alongside the release of a teaser trailer. Episodes will release weekly after this premiere date, and will not release all at once like season 1 did.[2]

Development[]

Casting[]

For season 2, casting reveals began in November 2024, when Deadline reported that Macaulay Culkin had been cast in a new recurring role as a "crazy genius-type character."[9]

Filming[]

For season 2, actress Leslie Uggams, who plays Betty Pearson, confirmed to Screen Rant in October 2024 that filming of the second season was set to begin the next month, in November 2024.[6] On November 12, 2024, Inverse reported that filming had begun on the second season, taking place in Los Angeles. The moving of production to Los Angeles was a noted change from season one's filming locations in New York, Utah, and Namibia.[15] A potential set construction for season 2 was spotted in Baker, California, on November 23. It was at an abandoned motel where filming equipment was seen alongside a prop reconstruction of the "No Vacancy" sign from Novac in Fallout: New Vegas.[16] On December 5, Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins were spotted filming scenes at a drive-in theater set near Kirk's Rock.[17]

Although filming for season 2 was meant to resume in early January 2025, production was delayed for several weeks as a result of the California wildfires that month.[18] In late January, a photo surfaced depicting a model of Dinky the T-Rex's head from Novac being constructed.[19]

In mid-to-late February 2025, a stretch of the disused Valley Plaza mall in North Hollywood was transformed into the New Vegas Strip (with portions visible to the public), with a disused movie theater becoming the exterior of Gomorrah, while new facades were built for the Ultra-Luxe, Vault 21, Michael Angelo's workshop, the Lucky 38, and the Fabulous New Vegas sign, among other locations.[20][21] In March 2025, more leaks confirmed the appearance of deathclaws, as well as a suit of NCR power armor, in a scene set outside the Lucky 38.[22] Other leaks around that time showed a seemingly pre-War version of the same set, with the Lucky 38's signboard appearing to advertise an "American economic forum" sponsored by RobCo.[23]

In mid-April 2025, photos surfaced on Reddit of interior film sets in downtown Los Angeles representing pre-War McCarran International Airport, including advertisements featuring Cooper Howard as Vault Boy, the Silver Rush Gambling Hall, Trans World Airlines, Robert House and the Lucky 38, and a reference to Vault 21. These photos have since been removed on copyright grounds, but were reported on by some media sources.[24] Around the same time, photos also surfaced on Reddit depicting members of Caesar's Legion and NCR soldiers.[25]

In late April 2025, Kyle MacLachlan stated that the filming for his scenes had concluded. He also expressed hope that the season would be able to release by the end of the year.[26] All filming on the season was finished on May 8, 2025.[14]

On May 9, 2025, an article by the New York Times reported on Fallout's filming in California and revealed a set photo of Freeside.[27] On May 12, 2025, the second's season release date was revealed to be in December 2025 during Amazon's upfront presentation in New York City. During this presentation, the approval of a third season of the show was also announced.[5] A teaser for season 2 was also shown, showing Cooper Howard on a film set talking about his acting work and being pressed into several advertisements for Nuka-Cola, an atomic sunscreen, and the Lucky 38. After the latter, Lucy and the Ghoul are shown in the desert viewing New Vegas in the distance.

Other information[]

In interviews with The Wrap and Variety, series co-showrunner Graham Wagner stated that the developers originally wanted to include deathclaws in season 1, but decided that it would not be appropriate to add so many iconic elements of the franchise at the start and not "be able to do it properly." He did confirm that deathclaws would be appearing in the TV series' second season.[28] The showrunners also confirmed that Robert House would "be involved" in the series for season 2.[7]

We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn’t want to just throw it away. It’s such a monumental piece (...) We want to save some something for Season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive world building we had to do already in Season 1. So Season 2, we’re very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games.Graham Wagner, The Wrap (archived)

On August 14, 2025, a new poster for the season was released, officially confirming that it would be primarily set in New Vegas and the surrounding Mojave Wasteland. Lucy, the Ghoul, Dogmeat, and Maximus are all featured on the poster, as well as the Fabulous New Vegas sign and the Lucky 38.[29] Four days later, a set of new promotional, pre-release photos were published, showing scenes of a pre-War New Vegas, new images of the main cast, and more.[30] The first teaser trailer was released at Gamescom 2025 the next day.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

^ (Note) In season 1, Robert House was portrayed by Rafi Silver in a cameo appearance. In season 2, Silver was replaced by Justin Theroux, as Mr. House takes on a more prominent story role.[2]
