Fallout 76 challenges

In Fallout 76, the player character can complete certain tasks, known as challenges. These challenges function much like in Fallout: New Vegas: the player character can complete a specific task for rewards, usually Atoms. Atoms can be spent on in-game cosmetics in the Atomic Shop. With Seasons, daily and weekly challenges currently award S.C.O.R.E. points instead.

Challenges are tied to account; for example, if the player collects 760 wood, they can not create another character on the same account to collect 760 wood to obtain Atoms again. However, progression is shared between characters; for example, a player could collect 500 wood as one character and 260 wood on their other character in order to obtain the Atoms. Atom challenge progression is possible in private adventure, although they do not progress in Fallout Worlds's Public Worlds or Custom Worlds; daily/weekly challenge progression is possible in all worlds, however.

Many challenges are unable to be done until its previous tier has been done. For example, using 76 bobbleheads requires the player to use all 20 types of bobbleheads first.

When Nuclear Winter (NW) was removed, all the NW challenges were removed as well.

General advice[]

General advice

Before beginning challenges, players may wish to switch to a Custom World or a private server as this provides reliable enemy and item spawns and does not interfere with other players doing their challenges.
Some players don't do the challenges and instead, only get S.C.O.R.E. by using XP grinding techniques at West Tek. Players can complete scoreboards in around 15 hours this way.
If a player wishes to do the challenges regularly, it will take about a month and a half if a player finishes nearly every chlallenge. Players can do their dailies in around an hour each day, so this may take around 75 hours to finish a scoreboard.
Around the time a season ends, some players worry they will not complete it in time and begin using many of their Atoms to get to rank 100. This is a practice which works against the player because every rank requires more S.C.O.R.E. and thus they begin using hundreds of Atoms they could have saved. To optimize this, it is best to keep doing dailies and weeklies and then wait until the final day of the season before using Atoms to rank up if a player wishes. Bethesda always announces the final day of a season when 76 is a close to a major update.
Before beginning weeklies, note that they can be optimized by not doing all weeklies immediately. For example, there may be a weekly to drink Nuka Cola 20 times. Instead of drinking 20 Nuka Cola all at once, the player will save resources if they hold this off in case a "Drink 5 Nuka Cola" daily pops up, so the daily and weekly can be completed together.
Consider not immediately obtaining the gold and caps from scoreboards. Players will save time if they redeem them when needed.
Players can be prepared by building their CAMP with various crops, the water well, Turbo-Fert fertilizer and the Nuka-Cola Collectron station. Creating an adhesive farm with water purifiers, corn, tato and mutfruit is highly recommended so vegetable starch can be made and it will scrapped into adhesive which will help with repairs.

Event challenges:

For "complete an event in a certain region", doing the "defend a workshop" in the region works. It is automatically triggered a couple of minutes after taking ownership of a workshop.

Crafting challenges:

If the challenge is like "Scrap junk to make [material]", it may not be necessary to go around hunting for junk. Rather, go to a tinker workbench and see if the bulk material can be created first, then scrap that. For certain rare non-bulk junk items, buying from a guaranteed merchant's stock might be the quickest option (e.g. silver and gold from Helena).
Wood can be collected at Sylvie & Sons logging camp in large quantities.
Having a protest sign is an easy way to do "repair weapon" as it only needs to be whacked against an enemy once or twice and can be repaired with 1 wood.
The weapon and armor modding challenges can be completed by changing the skin of an item X times, for the cost of 1 oil each.
Doing the legendary scrip daily doesn't actually require players to donate any legendaries to the scrip machine. Merely put in an item worth 40 scrip and take it back before closing the menu. Repeat until it is complete.
For the purposes of ammo and food crafting challenges, caution must be exercised. Bulk crafting X items registers only as one instance. The quantity increase in the crafted ammunition provided by the Ammosmith perk is ignored, as only the base quantity is registered.
Planting crops is as easy as looting them first, scrapping them and replanting.
Corn soup is the easiest way to cook a meal using plants or fungi, as it only requires corn and boiled water.
The West Virginia slot machine is a convenient way to do the "obtain caps" daily, although it will take a few minutes of using it.

Consumption challenges:

Popcorn counts as pre-War food. Alternatively, do Monster Mash to get hundreds of candy.
Consuming Nuka-Cola candy fufils the candy eating challenge. It can be obtained for free from the dispenser in any CAMP.
Consuming Canned dog food (Fallout 76) is a regular challenge subject, therefore keeping a stockpile of 5-10 dog foods at all times is advised.

Lockpicking / hacking challenges:

A useful place for lockpicking dailies is the Duncan & Duncan Robotics as well as the locked suitcase on the ground at the west end of Lewisburg Station, close to the spawn point.
Watoga Transit Hub has both a terminal and a lock close to the spawn point.

Combat challenges:

Three snallygasters spawn at Toxic Larry's Meat 'n Go, counting as glowing and cryptid enemies.
The cripple arms / legs challenges can be easily completed with a shotgun and the Enforcer perk.
Insects (bloatflies) can reliably be found at the New River Gorge Resort.
The destroy an assaultron challenge can easily be completed on the 3 assaultrons patrolling the walkway in the southwestern part of Watoga. They do not shoot back if Mayor for a Day was previously completed.
Legendary enemies can be a little difficult to find sometimes, but doing West Tek runs and hard difficulty events (e.g. Eviction Notice, Moonshine Jamboree and Radiation Rumble) are decent ways. If it asks to kill a 3-star legendary, the Scorchbeast queen will count, although it requires players to inflict at least 1000 damage to it.
The following events spawn guaranteed legendary enemies:
- Scorched Earth (1x3-star)
- A Colossal Problem (1x3-star)
- Encryptid (1x3-star)
- Free Range (1x1-3-star)
- Uranium Fever (3x3-star)
- One Violent Night (1x3-star)
- Leader of the Pack (3x1-star)
- Horde Events (1x1-3-star), except the special Wolf Horde event in the Forest that starts immediately after Leader of the Pack
- AWOL Armaments (1x3-star)
- During the daily quest Heart of the Enemy, the location where the quest points always spawns a legendary scorchbeast if the quest is active.
For the "level up" daily/weekly, there are three possible easy methods:
- Create a new character, skip the opening cutscene and leave Vault 76 as soon as possible; other than the Pip-Boy on the wall, it is not needed to pick up a single item. After leaving, even though it says level 2, this won't trigger the challenge. Don't talk to the robot or the women; head straight to the Wayward. To possibly make this faster, see if any camps are nearby and if so, remember their username and see if they are on a public team with an open slot for a free fast travel to their camp. In the Wayward, immediately punch Batter to death and button mash through all of Duchess' dialogue. Leave the building and craft a knife at the Overseer's camp, then place a C.A.M.P. It should say level 3 and the character can be deleted and the process can be repeated.
- In the main adventure mode, make it so a character is very close to leveling up and log out. Import the character into Fallout Worlds, level up in Fallout Worlds and return to the main menu. Hover over Fallout Worlds and do the reimport character option to prepare for next time. The downside of this method is it's not efficient because players will still make XP progress on their main adventure character.
- The best and most efficient way combines the above methods, although it requires the player to dedicate one of their five character slots for the purpose of this daily. Do the first method, but be careful not to gain any XP on the way to the Wayward. Rush through Duchess' dialogue, then set a C.A.M.P. after making it to the Overseer's camp, but log out before you craft the combat knife. Import the level 2 character into Fallout Worlds (if there is no option, be sure to "unlink" characters on the character change menu), then switch to Fallout Worlds and craft the knife to level up. Exit to the main menu and re-import the character for next time. Now leveling up only requires crafting a knife.

Atom challenges walkthrough[]

When needing to scrap rifles and laser weapons, the super mutants at West Tek are a good source for them.
A useful method to collect pipe weapons is to create a new character and confront Batter in the Wayward. He can be killed and looted as he often drops pipe weapons. Before talking to Duchess, exit to the main menu, reload and repeat the process. This proceed can be made faster if he is immediately attacked with a melee weapon before the conversation box appears.
To fight massive amounts of robots, players can fight them at the Whitespring Resort by attacking the non-hostile robots.
Taking photos of the 76 different animals can be time-consuming, but taking pictures of every animal during Project Paradise is a good way to get a headstart.
When doing "Complete Events in a Group with a weapon", the player simply has to switch to the weapon before the event ends instead of using it throughout the event.
Players will need to kill a lot of Scorched using different weapons. A decent way to find them is doing Helvetia and checking all the buildings, then going to Morgantown Airport's front, back and inside, and then going to the Palace of the Winding Path and exploring the lower levels of the area.

Every 24 hours in real time, a number of daily challenges are selected from the list below. These challenges are the same for all players each day. The daily challenge - "Gold star: complete a daily challenge (6)" is consistent each day. As of Season 5, "unlimited" S.C.O.R.E. ranks past rank 100 are now active for daily challenges. The S.C.O.R.E. daily challenges function the same way as the Atom daily challenges. Fallout 1st members can complete a bonus daily challenge. As of Season 12, any unwanted non gold star challenge can be re-rolled. Re-rolled challenges have a chance to become Epic Challenges with better rewards. 1 free re-roll is available each day, with Fallout 1st members receiving a bonus re-roll. Re-rollers can also be purchased from the Atomic Shop or received as rewards from ranking up on the S.C.O.R.E. board.

These challenges are repeatable every 7 real days. These challenges are the same for all players each week. The "repeatable under rank 100: gain XP" weekly challenge is consistent each week since debut. As of Season 5, "unlimited" Score ranks past rank 100 are now active for weekly challenges. Whereas the repeatable gain XP weekly challenge is only active while under rank 100. The S.C.O.R.E. weekly challenges function the same way as the Atom weekly challenges. As of Season 12, any unwanted non gold star challenge can be re-rolled. Epic Challenges[]

Sometimes, when using a reroller on a challenge, it will be replaced with an Epic challenge, as mentioned above. Epic challenges are worth 50% more S.C.O.R.E and are (usually) more difficult than normal ones. Epic challenges typically require performing either a lot of grinding (such as crippling a large amount of super mutant's arms) or an oddly specific action (such as taking a camera picture of a cryptid in the Mire region).

PC Combat challenge: Kill Different Kinds of Tough Enemies - The objective of killing a Scorchbeast Queen does not check off even if a Scorchbeast Queen is killed with another player character's help. Some have mentioned a special case of the bug, where the objective apparently checks off, but then reverts to unchecked upon restarting the game.^[patched]
PC Playstation 4 Xbox One World challenge: Possum: Archaeologist. Bones collected while wearing a crumpled fedora or dirty fedora do not count because they do not have the ClothingTypeFedora keyword.^[patched]
