- Note: They Went That-a-Way can be skipped entirely by going directly to the Tops on the Strip and getting near Benny, which completes the quest. However, the shorter path going north from Goodsprings to New Vegas is designed to include dangerous enemies such as cazadores and deathclaws that can easily kill low-level characters to discourage this.
Faction quest arcs[]
During and after Ring-A-Ding-Ding!, each of the four major factions in Fallout: New Vegas will provide the starting quest for their requisite arcs. Completing the game's story requires that one faction must be chosen to support. As the quest arc for a single faction is followed, the arcs of the other factions (with the exception of the Wild Card quests for Independent/Yes Man) will fail as large amounts of Infamy is gained with the other factions while completing quests for the chosen faction. The point at which the other faction arcs fail and the chosen faction arc is locked in varies depending on one's actions and quests already completed. One can still choose to side with another faction as long as the first chosen faction's arc has not progressed to the point that the second chosen faction's arc has been permanently locked out.
The point at which completing a faction's quest arc causes other factions' questlines to become locked out are indicated in the table below. Note that alternative quest arcs can still be failed at earlier stages due to Infamy and related actions.
For more information on the outcomes of each faction's quest arc, see Fallout: New Vegas endings.
