A container is an object that the player can activate to bring up an inventory screen in which they can put in or take out items from their inventory to its inventory. Fallout: New Vegas has many container types, many of which return from Fallout 3, such as refrigerators, as well as some brand new ones, such as Sunset Sarsaparilla crates.

"Safe" and "unsafe" containers

Containers may be referred to as "safe" or "unsafe." Items placed in an "unsafe" container will disappear over time when the container respawns its contents. On the other hand, "safe" containers will never respawn their contents, meaning that they'll retain the contents that are deposited in them indefinitely. The vast majority of containers in Fallout: New Vegas are safe, but besides looking at the G.E.C.K. (editor) or using a mod, there's no in-game way to tell which containers are unsafe.

Types of containers

Unsafe containers

This is a mostly complete list of unsafe containers as verified in the G.E.C.K. (editor) (containers with "Respawn" set to "Yes" and with instances in the game world). As noted above, very few containers are unsafe.
