Horses and donkeys have never been shown in a Fallout game, but have been mentioned on occasion.

BackgroundEdit

Some equidae survived the Great War, living a short period of time before becoming extinct in just under or over a century. According to the Fallout Bible, Pugsley was an example of a mule that survived, though he is referred to as a donkey in-game.[1][2] Horses appear in All Roads, though Chris Avellone later admitted that he did not intend for horses to appear, and that the graphic novel was released before anyone noticed that horses appeared in it.[3]

Post-WarEdit

NotesEdit

  • When asked about the horses seen in All Roads, Chris Avellone said, "To me, that picture in the comic was an error (no one noticed it until too late) and that "it was never my intention that there were any horses." He went on to say that "there were parts of the New Vegas design where we specifically removed the mention of horses from certain narrative points (one of Raul’s stories originally referenced horses, for example, and we cut them because we didn’t want to imply horses still existed)."[8]
  • In the Fallout Bible, Chris Avellone refers to Pugsley as a mule, rather than a donkey. A mule is a cross between a donkey and a horse, which would imply both survived; however, given that in-game Irwin uses the term donkey, this is likely just an error on his part.

  1. Fallout Bible 8: "1)Did horses (in any form) survive the Great War, within the area of California? Arguably, I imagine that if they did, horses would begin to replace cars as the main mode of distance transportation."
"Nope. Some mules did (the poor mule killed by the raiders in F1), but not for long. Besides, I think that mule was a discrepancy."

Irwin: "{106}{}{This is a tragedy, believe me. Nothing is the way it used to be. I have a small farm outside town and a few days ago a bunch of Raiders appeared out of nowhere and now use my home as their camp. They killed Pugsley, my donkey and they threatened to kill me if I ever dare to come back.}"
