Energy Resistance allows you to resist energy weapons. The higher your Energy Resistance, the less damage you incur from enemies using energy weapons like the Laser pistol (Fallout: New Vegas) and Gatling laser (Fallout: New Vegas).
Curiously the only item in the entire Fallout universe that modifies this is the Atomic cocktail.
