The Embrace of the Mantis King!In-game spelling, punctuation and/or grammar is a unique weapon added with the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Gun Runners' Arsenal.

Characteristics[]

Like the standard mantis gauntlet, the weapon consists of the severed foreleg of a giant mantis affixed to the wearer's arm. Unlike the smooth surface of the standard variant's foreleg attachment, Embrace of the Mantis King! has spines along the forearm guard, and the claw itself has a scaly serrated edge.

Compared to the standard variant, Embrace of the Mantis King! has significantly greater reach, higher durability, and a higher caps value as well as deals more damage per strike and significantly higher critical hit damage at the same 3x critical chance multiplier, but at the cost of a slower attack speed coupled with a higher weight due to the extra size and a slightly higher AP cost. It requires the same 75 Unarmed skill level and 4 Strength attribute level to use effectively.

Behind the scenes[]

Joshua Sawyer stated that the weapon's name did not come from any one specific inspiration, but rather that the goal was a "50s sci-fi thing" because Old World Blues was finishing development, or close to release during its creation.[Non-game 1]

  1. Question: "Did the weapon's name "Embrace of the Mantis King!" derive from any sort of inspiration? Perhaps a 50's sci-fi giant insect movie?"
Joshua Sawyer: "Not from anything specific, but yeah I was going for a 50s sci-fi thing. Maybe it's because OWB was wrapping up/coming out at the time."
