Dolphish[1] are creatures found in the Commonwealth and on the Island in 2287.
Characteristics[]
Dolphish are a species of mutated dolphins.[1] The creature is always found deceased along waterway coasts, sometimes with innards exposed. Others are on the decks of boats or found being fed upon by mirelurks. Some dolphish corpses will explode if struck.
Locations[]
- On a boat west of the Beantown Brewery.
- On a boat southwest of the Cambridge Polymer Labs.
- Deep underwater near a shipwreck to the northeast of Fort Strong.
- On the dock directly in front of the entrance to Hester's Consumer Robotics, a small dolphish is found in a bathtub.
- An intact corpse can be found beached just south of Kingsport Lighthouse.
- On a platform covered in debris in Libertalia.
- In front of the boardwalk at Revere Beach station.
- At the bottom of the rocky mountain west of the Rook family house.
- On the beach in front of Sandy Coves Convalescent Home.
- Scattered throughout the docks behind the Shamrock Taphouse.
- Along the northern coast of Spectacle Island.
- Found at such a depth that most player characters could drown or be lethally irradiated before finding it without the Aquaboy/Aquagirl perk.
- Nine corpses (one of which has a human skeleton sticking out of its ruptured stomach and spawns a random melee weapon) can be found on a beach west of the wreck of the FMS Northern Star.
- Two cadavers on the wreck of the USS Riptide.
Two can be found near the Cranberry Island supply shed.

Dolphish appear in Fallout 4 and its add-on Far Harbor.
Behind the scenes[]
- The creature was designed by Gabrielle Adams and created in ZBrush. It is referred to as the "exploding whale" in her ArtStation portfolio. In game files, one render is named "dolphin," and the texture is labeled "whale." It was first canonically named in-game with the addition of the mounted dolphish head to Fallout 76 in The Big Score.
- The dolphish found on the boat west of Beantown Brewery is a reference to the film Jaws.
- The dolphish is seen in the animation for the cut quest 20 Leagues Under the Sea.
