"Dixie" (also known as "Dixie's Land" and "I Wish I Was in Dixie") was the anthem of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. In Fallout 3, the Enclave plays a recording of "Dixie" on their propaganda radio station. The arrangement used in Fallout 3 was done by Kelly Richmond and was released in 1996 on the Sound Ideas CD Time Marches On. It was re-released in 2003 on the Westar Music CD Proud and Spirited (WSR 171).[Meta 1]
Background[]
The song originated in the blackface minstrel shows of the 1850s and quickly became popular across the United States. During the American Civil War, "Dixie" was adopted as a de facto national anthem of the Confederate States of America. New versions appeared at this time that more explicitly tied the song to the events of the Civil War. Since the advent of the Civil Rights Movement, many have identified the lyrics of the song with the iconography and ideology of the Old South. In modern times, "Dixie" is strongly associated with sympathy for slavery or racial separation in the American South. Its supporters, on the other hand, view the minstrel song as a legitimate aspect of Southern culture.
Notes[]
The song only appears on Enclave Radio. Like the Confederate States of America, the Enclave has engaged in legalized slavery, when they converted captive wastelanders into super mutants and worked them to death.[Non-game 1]

Behind the scenes[]
During a speech in 1865, Abraham Lincoln stated that before the Civil War, he used to hear this song with great pleasure.
