Deathclaw
Old bones in the Mojave
Deathclaws are creatures in the Fallout TV series .
Background [ ]
Originally intended as genetically-engineered creatures developed by the United States military to replace humans during close-combat search-and-destroy missions, the specimens escaped containment in the aftermath of the Great War , and over the next few decades, the "deathclaw" species has colonized much of the former United States , becoming apex predators in many of the new, post-War ecosystems.
Characteristics [ ]
Deathclaws are a large, carnivorous, bipedal reptile species with large horns and deadly claws.

An old deathclaw skull can be seen as Hank MacLean is walking through the Mojave Wasteland towards New Vegas . Another one appears next to a crashed vertibird in the episode credits.

In an interview with The Wrap , series co-showrunner Graham Wagner stated that the developers originally wanted to include deathclaws in Season 1 but decided that it would not be appropriate to add so many iconic elements of the franchise at the start and not "be able to do it properly." He did confirm that deathclaws would be appearing in the TV series' upcoming season 2 .
“ We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn’t want to just throw it away. It’s such a monumental piece (...) We want to save some something for Season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive world building we had to do already in Season 1 . So Season 2, we’re very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games. ” — Graham Wagner
