Food no longer satisfies— in-game effect

The Dark Craving is an addiction in Fallout 4. It is a negative status effect inflicted upon the Sole Survivor while in survival mode.

Effects[]

The effect is gained when the Sole Survivor feeds upon a corpse to satiate their hunger. Food will no longer sate hunger; the player character can only commit cannibalism to fulfill hunger requirements and will go straight from being satisfied to ravenous instead of the intermediate statuses (peckish, etc.).

The Sole Survivor will stay satisfied for 12 game hours before needing to commit cannibalism again (one normally needs to eat every 6 game hours). One corpse will take the player character from ravenous to well-fed. The game treats this as an addiction, which can be cured by any doctor NPC for 75 caps. This will appear as a dialogue option. Addictol, refreshing beverage, and a radscorpion egg omelette will also cure the addiction.

This 12-hour timer does not consider any corpses that are eaten in between triggers of Dark Craving, but only those when the Sole Survivor becomes ravenous as a result of the addiction. In addition, sleeping in a bed for two hours after eating a corpse artificially extends the timer to 14 hours. This is a byproduct of how sleep generally works in survival mode, which punishes rest periods of only a single hour.

Notes[]

Although Dark Craving is considered an addiction by the game, it does not count as an addiction for the Junkie's legendary effect.
