Combat Ready is a side quest in the Fallout 4 Creation Club content "CR-74L Combat Rifle."
Walkthrough[]
This quest can be started alongside Way Back Home, and unlocks various weapon mods for the CR-74L: a supressor, reflex scopes, light stock and grip, fluted barrels, and high grade receivers. Each mod set can be pursued independently, and the quest ends when all of the recipes have been unlocked.
The quest is started by collecting the Commonwealth travel guide from Mary Jane's corpse and reading each of the entries in the CR-74L Modding Guide, which provide directions on how to complete the objectives.
The earliest unlockable mod is the suppressor: head to the Red Rocket truck stop and collect the coolant schematics found at the main counter to complete this stage. The schematics can be found before even starting the quest.
For the scope mod, track down and kill Artis in Lexington (his initial spawn location is in the tall building with the swimming pool next to the Lexington apartments -- the top floors can be reached via a fire escape on the side of the building), then take Artis' CR-74L scope recipe from his corpse and read it.
The grip mod can be crafted by obtaining expired pine tar, which must be done by visiting a vending machine outside the Dugout Inn in Diamond City. The vending machine only takes pre-War money, and pine tar costs 25 pieces of pre-War money; the vending machine also sells gum drops for $20, Fancy Lads Snack Cakes for $30, and packs of cigarettes for $50. The pine tar can be bought for free by wearing a baseball uniform; if the player character does not have one, they can generally be bought from Moe Cronin. This is the most involved part of the entire quest.
Finally, the receiver schematics are located in a wall safe in The Hole in the Wall in the Quincy ruins (the building with the liquor sign). The safe has an Expert lock but can also be opened with the Quincy shop key that is inside the nearby cash register.
The quest completes once all of the mod stages have been finished.
