Cole Albert Porter (June 9, 1891 – October 15, 1964) was an American composer and songwriter.
Background[]
Porter's works include the musical comedies Kiss Me, Kate, Fifty Million Frenchmen, DuBarry Was a Lady and Anything Goes, as well as songs like "Night and Day," "I Get a Kick out of You," "Well, Did You Evah!" and "I've Got You Under My Skin," and "Don't Fence Me In."
He was noted for his sophisticated, bawdy lyrics, clever rhymes and complex forms. He was one of the greatest contributors to the Great American Songbook. Cole Porter is one of the few Tin Pan Alley composers to have written both the lyrics and the music for his songs.
In the Fallout series[]
Fallout 3[]
He composed and sang the song "Anything Goes" from the eponymous musical, which is used in Fallout 3 on Galaxy News Radio.
Fallout: New Vegas[]
While none of his songs appear in the game, the Fallout: New Vegas quest Ace in the Hole is named after a 1941 song composed by Cole Porter recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, among others.
Fallout 4[]
"Anything Goes" is played on Diamond City Radio in Fallout 4.
Fallout 76[]
In Fallout 76, "Anything Goes" and "Don't Fence Me In", a song written by Porter and performed by Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters, are played on Appalachia Radio.
Porter is also mentioned by name by Julie, the host of Appalachia Radio, who wonders if he'd be surprised to see how the world ended up since his times. She also says that upon reaching the station, its equipment was days away from breaking down, and that with her arrival she averted a situation where the radio would continuously broadcast "Anything Goes" on a loop.[1]
Fallout (TV series)[]
"Don't Fence Me In", written by Porter and performed by Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters appears in "The Target", second episode of the first season of the Fallout TV series.
Additionally, "Anything Goes" appeared on the Amazon Music playlist "Music from Fallout" promoting the Fallout TV series, but not in the series itself.
