The "clown" is a resident of the Whitespring Refuge in Appalachia.

Background[]

Along with the partygoers, the clown is dressed up for a surprise birthday party for the anxious refugee.^[1] The partygoers have not been very secretive about it, however, and the anxious refugee has heard rumors about it.^[2]
