Chicken are long-domesticated birds that were raised by farmers for food.
Background
Chickens were widely thought to be extinct especially in areas such as the Capital Wasteland, however some survived in a homemade underground bunker and led short lives on the surface protected by the short-lived residents of the hilltop farm ruins after the Great War. In other less desolate environments such as Appalachia they survived in a more natural fashion and are even considerably more common.
Characteristics
Chickens are gregarious, domesticated fowl reared for meat and eggs. They were the most common and widespread domesticated animals whose ancestors were domesticated thousands of years ago. Male chickens are known as roosters, while female chickens are known as hens. The hens lay eggs, which are fertilized by the rooster. Fertilized eggs, kept under the right temperature via the intervention of a hen or a climate-controlled environment, eventually produce infant chickens, known as chicks.
Variants
(Rad) chicken
These chickens have been exposed to high levels of radiation, leaving them atrophied and naked. They are slightly smaller than their pre-War ancestors, and pose no threat whatsoever.
