Caravan: Skyline Drive is a public event in Fallout 76, introduced in the Milepost Zero update. It is part of the caravan functionality at Milepost Zero. Launching the event can be unlocked by the quest A Bump in the Road.
Quick walkthrough[]
- Travel to the starting point of the caravan (marked by a brahmin head on the map).
- Run with the brahmin along the road, defending against environmental hazards to be interacted with, as well as attacking enemies.
- Interact with a dropbox at the final destination to drop off the cargo. This completes the event.
Detailed walkthrough[]
- Note: A well-maintained, well-populated caravan event should be able to be completed in approximately less than 10 minutes. However, the event may sometimes be affected by a bug in which the caravan will loop and run for much longer than intended, taking much longer than that, or even the whole 30-minute timer unintentionally. See below for more information. Ensure that the brahmin is being hurried along appropriately (not spammed while already hurrying) and enemies are being cleared on the way.
This public event is effectively a more difficult version of Free Range. It is started by speaking with Marley at Milepost Zero. During the related quest A Bump in the Road, the player is prompted to begin a caravan, which will involve starting this event. The event can be repeated at any point thereafter, in conversation with Marley.
After the event is started, an icon with a golden brahmin head will appear on the world map. Travel to the caravan's starting point. The brahmin will travel from Point A to Point B carrying its cargo, and the involved players must guard the brahmin as it journeys along Skyline Drive, the main roadway of Skyline Valley.
Along the way, the brahmin will be attacked by various enemies. The enemies attacking may be spawned by the event, though depending on the route on any instance of the event, enemies may also attack from any non-quest location that one happens to pass by (such as Lost randomly encountered on the road). Enemies spawned in waves by the event itself include:
- Bloatflies
- Blood Eagles
- Communists
- Cultists
- Liberators
- Lost
- Mirelurks
- Mole miners
- Mongrels
- Super mutants
- Thrashers
- Wolves
Additionally, the player may encounter "boss" enemies while guarding the brahmin. These give an extra objective to defeat the boss enemies, which may include:
Aside from the attacking enemies, random events may appear along the road, from environmental hazards to interacting with locals. Some of these optional objectives that will appear include:
- Removing fallen logs on the road to clear the path for the brahmin (attack the logs to destroy them).
- Another caravan, with a dead brahmin and a Blue Ridge worker, being ambushed by Blood Eagles; rescuing the worker by defeating the Blood Eagles is an optional objective.
- Optionally interacting with Mr Trick or Treat, who will give a random "trick" or "treat."
- If he gives a treat, nothing actually happens (due to a bug). But if it is a trick, he will explode.
- In the game's files, there are encounters for an injured scavenger, malfunctioning Assaultron, raider and settler guard. Although not marked as cut, they have never been observed to appear in-game and may not be implemented.
Along the way, the brahmin can be interacted with to "hurry" it, briefly increasing its pace and running speed. There is a cooldown period, so one should check the brahmin regularly to see if it can be hurried along and thus complete the event faster. This will also allow the brahmin to run away from enemies who have slower movements.
Upon reaching the final destination of the caravan, the players are prompted to interact with a dropbox to deliver the cargo. So long as the brahmin has made it to this point alive, interacting with the dropbox will successfully complete the event. Any enemies present are not factored in, just whether or not the brahmin is alive, so a player should rush ahead to drop off the cargo and ensure the event is completed.
Rewards[]
Completing the Caravan event awards Supplies, a currency which can be used to hire crew and upgrade the base at Milepost Zero.
The rewards will differ depending on what tier of event is launched when speaking to Marley, from tier 1 (smallest shipment, least expensive) to tier 3 (biggest shipment, most expensive).
All successes grant 1200 Experience Points. Failure grants just 50 XP. No matter the result, success or failure, 1-3 Stimpaks will be awarded, alongside contextual ammunition, with more being awarded for successes.
- Notes: Participants will not receive Supplies for joining in a caravan until they have progressed in the quest A Bump in the Road, to the point where they are prompted to launch this event themselves.
- On September 20, 2024, Bethesda acknowledged player feedback that the participant rewards for helping with someone else's caravan were too low. The rewards will be changed in the next update for Fallout 76, the supporting patch for Milepost Zero, in October 2024, alongside other bug fixes.[1]
As caravan owner[]
- Tier 3 success: 50 Supplies
- Tier 2 success: 25 Supplies
- Tier 1 success: 10 Supplies
- Failure: 5 Supplies
As participant[]
- Tier 3 Success: 5 Supplies
- Tier 2 Success: 3 Supplies
- Tier 1 Success: 1 Supply
- Failure: 1 Supply
Notes[]
- The related quest A Bump in the Road will grant 100 Supplies for completing it, after one has completed a caravan as part of the quest.
- Recruiting Josie at Milepost Zero (which can be done immediately after completing A Bump in the Road) gives the player access to several upgrades for the brahmin in this event, such as making it move faster on the player's own launched caravans. As such, recruiting her first is advantageous and makes subsequent replays of this event easier.
- Additionally, brahmin that appears in this event can have its name customized if one has recruited Josie at Milepost Zero. She will have a dialogue option to name the brahmin. From there, a menu will appear, on which the player can assign a prefix and suffix (e.g. "Old" and "Buttercup" to name the brahmin "Old Buttercup") to give the brahmin a two-word name.
- Although Caravan: Skyline Drive is counted as a public event, players who die during it will still drop loot bags with their junk items, unlike other public events.
- Windy Park, who is currently not implemented at Milepost Zero, is supposed to have a "cryptid bait" effect that can be purchased from her. This cryptid bait is supposed to add the Flatwoods monster, Grafton Monster and Sheepsquatch to the rotation of boss enemies encountered during this event, alongside a singular Blue Devil and Ogua (not together). However, none of this content, including Windy, is currently accessible.

Bugs[]
- Although the event can be completed in approximately less than 10 minutes, a bug has been reported in which the caravan will seemingly loop around Skyline Drive and not reach an ending checkpoint in a timely manner, taking over 20 minutes to conclude or even not concluding at all and resulting in failure when the 30-minute timer runs out. There appears to not be any way of tracking when this bug will occur, aside from noting an extremely lengthy caravan route. This has led to some confusion online over the intended length of the event, though extremely lengthy caravan routes do appear to be the result of a bug. Throughout the event, one should ensure that they are hurrying the brahmin appropriately (not spamming while it is already hurried) and clearing enemies to help speed things along, though how these actions interact with this bug is not yet clear.[verified]
- Makeout Point, where a fire truck takes up much of the road. The pathing will be bugged regardless of the brahmin's speed.[verified] The brahmin's pathing may occasionally become confused and veer off of the road, or even turn around in the opposite direction entirely, circling around ground that has already been covered. One particular "trouble spot" appears to be the car crash south of
- If one disconnects during the event (whether voluntarily or as a result of a crash), and then rejoins the same server, they can return to the event. However, if the player launched the event themselves, they will no longer be considered the "owner" of the caravan, and will instead receive the same rewards as any other joining participant.[verification needed]
- A Bump in the Road, the caravan may be bugged upon fast traveling to it, as the brahmin will suddenly and inexplicably die even with no enemies around, causing Caravan: Skyline Drive to fail. One can return to Marley to relaunch the event and try again for free. However, even if the player joins and completes another active instance of the event (not their own) to try to complete the objective, they will still have to return to Marley and complete their own non-failed caravan. This leads to a situation in which two objectives are displayed by A Bump in the Road, one where the quest believes the caravan was successful (from someone else's successful caravan), and one where it believes the caravan failed (from the player's own failed caravan). However, Marley's dialogue for the failed caravan will take priority, effectively meaning that the player must complete their own iteration of Caravan: Skyline Drive, even though this is not a requirement of the quest otherwise.[verification needed] When this event is launched as part of the quest
- Mr Trick or Treat appears as one of the optional objectives, and the brahmin in the event runs far ahead of Mr Trick or Treat before he gives out his "trick" or "treat," Mr Trick or Treat may suddenly disappear from the world before his interaction is resolved.[verification needed] If
- Halloween candy) if he selects "treat" as part of his encounter. However, Mr Trick or Treat has been observed to not actually give anything out, and instead nothing happens on "treat."[verified] Mr Trick or Treat is intended to give out some form of candy (such as
