With the Cannibal perk, when you're in Sneak mode, you gain the option to eat a corpse to regain Health. But every time you feed, you lose Karma, and if the act is witnessed, it is considered a crime against nature.— In-game description

Cannibal is a perk in Fallout: New Vegas.

Effects[]

Taking this perk grants the ability to feed on the corpses of humans and non-feral ghouls, which garners +25 Hit Points, inflicts +3 Radiation and deducts -1 Karma. In Hardcore mode, it also deducts -25 Starvation.

Interactions that require the Cannibal perk[]

Notes[]

  • If the act is witnessed by friendly non-player characters, they will turn hostile, as cannibalism is considered a crime against nature. However, companions do not turn hostile.
  • Consuming 25 corpses unlocks the Dine and Dash challenge perk, allowing for the harvest of human remains from a corpse to act as a food consumable.
  • With the Old World Blues add-on, this perk allows for feeding on a dead Y-17 trauma override harness.
  • This perk is necessary to obtain the Meat of Champions perk, as one is required to devour the corpses of Robert House, President Kimball, The King and Caesar.
  • A repurposed image of the perk, in which Vault Boy is dressed in black-and-white prison stripes, along with a warning of escaped prisoners, can be seen on a street sign.[5] Six of those signs are located around the access road leading toward the NCR Correctional Facility, as well as near the railroad crossing, where the access roads leads back to Interstate 15.
  • The animation time for the process of devouring a corpse is roughly twice as long as it takes to drink water from a sink.
  • When selecting "Devour," the camera will automatically go to third person and will zoom out. The Courier cannot move, look at their Pip-Boy or draw a weapon. However, it is possible to change weapons with the quick-select menu.

Behind the scenes[]

This perk is censored in the Japanese version of the game. In it, the perk is renamed to "Mystic Power," the perk image has the gore removed and features a cleaner-looking Vault Boy, and the description mentions the player using "magic powers," instead of eating, on the corpse to restore health. Despite these changes, the animation is left untouched.
