Cait is a possible companion in Fallout 4. She is a chem-addicted Irish1 pit fighter and can be found in the Combat Zone. She is able to pick locks up to and including Master rating.

Background

Cait's parents were abusive, distant, and fought constantly. They sold her into slavery once she turned eighteen, where she spent five years of enslavement pickpocketing her owners to obtain enough caps to buy her freedom. After doing so, she chose to track down and murder her parents in revenge for her treatment. She eventually found herself in the Combat Zone, fighting there for three years until the Sole Survivor arrives. After engaging and defeating the Raiders occupying the building, the owner of the Combat Zone, Tommy Lonegan, gives the Sole Survivor her contract.

Due to her upbringing and time spent in the Combat Zone, Cait is slow to trust and finds it hard to believe anybody would be nice to her without expecting anything in return. Over time she comes to trust the Sole Survivor, telling them about her addiction to Psycho and desire to be cured of it. Her addiction is too strong to be handled by an ordinary doctor so she mentions rumors of a cure in Vault 95 and requests the Sole Survivor take her there.

Notes

  • She will comment if taken to the corpse of Nate or Nora in Vault 111.
  • In order to pick a lock, she has to have a bobby pin in her inventory.
  • Cait will dislike all four of the first set of dialogue options during the Minutemen quests to help settlements with Raiders.
  • Cait will actively use Psycho, Jet, Rad-Away and other chems in her inventory. Since it was explained she was an addict when meeting her, it might be beneficial to keep her stocked up as she appears to get friendly very quickly, and it might improve her usefulness in fights.
  • Cait will react negatively after you complete her personal quest "Benign Intervention" if you use chems in front of her. She will berate you for being a "hypocrite" for using them after helping her to cure her Psycho addiction.
  • The Sole Survivor may raise Cait's affection level by removing their clothing and fast traveling from safe location to safe location.
    • A quicker alternative to this is to own the Home Plate house in Diamond City market. Place a bed in front of the door, sleep for 2 hours and exit the house. Reenter the house. Repeat as necessary.
  • Cait will disapprove of joining any of the factions until the second act of the main story when the Brotherhood of Steel comes in. After this she will no longer disapprove of joining the Brotherhood of Steel.
  • Diamond City guards consider Cait an ex-raider, and tell the player to make sure she plays "nice" inside the city.
    • DC Guard: "Your friend looks like she's trouble. Make sure that she's not."
  • Cait asks Takahashi to serve her a drink on their first meeting, but she doesn't get it as Takahashi only serves noodles in the Diamond City market.
  • Cait's dialogue while exploring several of the Vault's indicates that she is already familiar with the Vault-Tec experiments and the true purpose of the Vault network.

  • Xbox OneXbox One During Cait's companion quest, Cait may begin to randomly collapse as if incapacitated during the dialogue. This will continue following completion of the quest.[verification overdue]
