Buffout is a chem in Fallout 3.

Background[]

Buffout is a highly advanced steroid that was popularized before the Great War by professional athletes and their clandestine use of the drug.[Non-game 1] Lucy claims that treatment for rickets (a common childhood disease) can be made through an extract of Buffout.[1]

Characteristics[]

Buffout is a consumable performance-enhancing drug that boosts both Strength and Endurance, in addition to a health increase of 60 HP. After about ten minutes the chem wears off and drains 60 HP from the current total; if having less than 60 HP, the total health will be reduced to 1.

Addiction can occur and can only be removed by a visit to a doctor or by using the detox function at My First Laboratory, if the Lone Wanderer has purchased it for their house. It carries a 10% Addiction rate.

Locations[]

Although many vendors will have one or two doses, significant quantities of Buffout are sold by:

  1. The Lone Wanderer: "That sounds like it's pretty useful fungus."
Lucy: "It is, especially for dealing with the low-level radiation we all get from the water. The fungus just soaks it right up. But it doesn't help the rickets that keeps hitting younger Lamplighters. Believe it or not, I can make a treatment for that from extract of Buffout. Actually, if you can talk MacCready into it, I'd be glad to trade some fungus for Buffout. But he'd have to say it was okay."
