Behind the scenes[]
The term "Brown Noser" is applied to those who tend to superficially attempt to impress their superiors for personal gain. A similar name would be "Kiss-ass". It implies that one sticks their nose in deeply while kissing a superior's buttocks, thereby having the nose come back out brown due to having been covered in feces (as a result of the superior's disregard for hygiene.)
