Brain fungus is a type of fungus that has appeared in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76.
Biology[]
A cluster of brain fungus
An order of fungus that primarily grows in cool, dark and damp environments in clusters spreading outward. It typically appears with a white coloring (environmental factors can affect this) in a bulbous polyp shape with various interweaving ridges, giving it the resemblance of a brain, hence the species name.
The utility of harvesting brain fungus is unknown in New California, but on the East Coast, in particular Appalachia, brain fungus has been used as an alternative ingredient to Mentats and as an ingredient in brain bombs. It is also edible on its own but is typically used for cooking to create brain fungus soup.
Variants[]
West Coast[]
Brain fungus is seen growing in several locations in the Capital Wasteland, Mojave Wasteland, and Zion Canyon but exists simply as a static decor model and cannot be harvested.
East Coast[]

Found growing in several locations in the Commonwealth and Appalachia, brain fungus can now be harvested as a consumable that restores HP. Inhabitants of the latter region developed a recipe for brain fungus soup.
