Hello? Is this the mailman? Oh I do hope my fall catalog has arrived!

Brailee Ewers is a resident of Arefu suffering from a severe case of delusional disorder, appearing in Fallout 3.

Background[]

The 36-year-old[Non-game 1] Brailee is a warm and compassionate person, with an extremely trusting nature and just a touch of shyness.[1][2] The recent troubles at Arefu caused by The Family had a profoundly negative effect on Brailee, as combined with a poor diet of pre-packaged "food" and long isolation at home with her overly protective husband resulted in her developing a severe delusional disorder.[Non-game 1]

Brailee now lives inside a utopia of her own making,[Non-game 1] where Arefu is a cozy village,[3] where the children play safely in the grassy knolls outside,[4] or fishing at the lake.[5] Brailee owns a garden with begonias near the front gate of her yard,[6] and is a member of a homeowner's association, bringing "muffins" to each meeting,[7] together with Matilda West. Inside this fantasy world, Brailee also makes preserves, chocolate chip cookies, and bakes pies (which, in reality, is just random junk she gives to others as presents).[8][9][10][11][12] Finally, she rejects the reality that the Wests are dead, believing they are just dead tired from the square dancing at the barn the night before.[13] Her mind consistently reinterprets events to fit in with the fantasy she created; when the Lone Wanderer knocks on the door, she instantly takes them for a mailman delivering the fall fashion catalog.[14]

She is married to Ken Ewers, who is keenly aware of her mental state and considers her to be "dumber than a bag of hammers."[15] At the same time, he loves her dearly and is extremely protective of her, which coupled with recent events made him extremely paranoid - and likely exacerbated Brailee's pre-existing issues.[Non-game 2] The two have been completely shut-in ever since Arefu went on lockdown due to The Family attacking the town's brahmin.[Non-game 1]

    "Brailee Ewers:
Brailee is 36 and married to Ken Ewers. She is a bit shy, and it doesn't help that she rarely gets to speak to anyone, thanks to her overprotective husband. She is warm and exudes compassion. In recent months, a combination of pre-packaged "food," being cooped up with Ken for hours at a time, and her already-fragile mind has caused her to become delusional, creating a more utopian world inside her head."
  2. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.80:
    "Ken Ewers:
This 40-year-old man is a bag of nerves who is terrified of the current attacks that have been plaguing the settlement. He masks this by being incredibly short and gruff with strangers and will impart only the smallest tidbits of useless information to you. He is fiercely protective of his wife and will inter-pose himself if anyone even tries speaking with her. He is the picture of paranoia and can't fight worth a damn."
