The bottlecap mine is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.
Characteristics[]
A powerful, manually placed improvised explosive. While the bottlecap mine functions like a typical land mine, it does take the player character slightly more time to arm and drop. It also has a longer warning sound before detonating. Like other placed explosives, it cannot be used in V.A.T.S.
Crafting[]
The weapon has a small finite number of fixed locations in-game, meaning if one wants to make extensive use of them, more must be crafted. Taking the Mad Bomber perk unlocks an alternative recipe that is more efficient in the number of resources required, added with the Gun Runners' Arsenal add-on.

¹ Craftable without a workbench via a dialogue option with Veronica, or with ED-E once the add-on Lonesome Road is installed.
Locations[]
- Ranger Station Charlie - Located in the room to the left of the entrance behind a pair of fire extinguishers. It only appears after speaking to Ranger Andy about investigating why he has lost contact with the station or by starting Return to Sender. It is an enemy-placed mine and must be disarmed.
- Oliver's compound - Two armed mines near a cubicle on the second floor.
- The armorer sometimes sells them at the Great Khan armory.
Notes[]
When talking to Alice McLafferty during Pressing Matters about the logistics of caps currency, specifically about how new caps are introduced to the economy, she mentions that "some idiots" use caps inside explosives and destroy their value, referring to the bottlecap mine.
