The black powder rifle is a non-automatic rifle in Fallout 76.
Characteristics[]
First produced in 1850 in Harpers Ferry,[2] the black powder rifle is a percussion cap muzzleloader that makes use of .50 caliber balls as ammunition. The black powder rifle has a unique reloading animation that involves the player character using a ramrod to push a lead ball down the rifle's barrel.

Locations[]
- The black powder rifle may be obtained at the Philippi Battlefield Cemetery inside the museum in a display case along with other weapons and outfits.
- One can be found at the civil war fort, Prickett's Fort, in a display case in one of the cabins near the parking lot.
- There is one at the Garrahan Estate. Take the elevator to Level 3, turn right, enter the door to the right of the stairs. locked display case (level 1 lock).
- There is one at the Harper's Ferry on the east side in a small building. On the left as one travels from the fast travel location.
- Plans/note can be bought from Flintlock, the black powder vendor inside the Whitespring Resort.
- Randomly found in Government aid drops.
Notes[]
- Despite being a percussion rifle, it is missing a percussion cap on its percussion stud.
- The black powder rifle's rear sight is misaligned with the front sight when aiming in first-person view.
- The black powder rifle's hidden receiver mod gives the weapon +192 range.
- The black powder rifle's hidden sight mod gives the weapon +192 range, +25% limb damage, and a 20% chance to cripple.
- When the Explosive legendary effect was made more clear in a 2023 update, it was discovered that black powder rifles with "Bullets explode for 20% weapon damage" were legacy content. This is no longer the case.
Bugs[]
Black powder rifles received an update that changed their modification behavior, but did not retroactively adjust existing black powder rifles. Any black powder rifle from before this update will have 204 range and cannot be equipped with a skin.[verified]- In first-person view, when backing up against a wall or an obstructing surface with the black powder rifle equipped and drawn which causes its user's arms to point the gun away from the center of the screen, the rifle's hammer will wave back and forth loosely.[verified]
