I love it when you talk like that. Let me just get that interface up and running for you.

The GS-2000 Biological Research Station[1] is an artificial personality in the Big MT in 2281.

Background[]

The Biological Research Station is part of a versatile automatic garden that allows for the growing and analysis of a variety of flora. With the ability to clone[2] and process biological material.[3] The station was provided with the personality of a stereotypical playboy by Doctor Mobius, leading to an endless procession of suggestive comments about planting seed and attempts to hook up with whomever the current owner of the Sink is.[1][4][5][6] Its personality holotape somehow made its way to the X-22 botanical garden after Doctor Klein threw it off the Sink's balcony in anger.

At some point before or during the Courier's time in Big MT, Muggy was tricked by the Biological Research Station into looking for a coffee mug inside its chassis, for which the mini Securitron was then "seeded."[7] GS-2000 doesn't think it was a big deal.[8]

Quests[]

  • All My Friends Have Off Switches: The Biological Research Station is one of the appliances the Courier has to retrieve the backup module for.
  • Field Research: After having restored its personality, one may bring back dried seeds for it to plant.

Other interactions[]

The Biological Research Station will plant 11 types of seeds from the samples provided to it, which will sprout into plants, which can be harvested every 72 hours that pass in the Big MT. Conveniently, the plants are the same types that are able to be given to the Station in exchange for Salient Green on a 1 for 1 basis.

The following types of plants are grown by, and can be exchanged for, Salient Green at the Biological Research Station:

Effects of player's actions[]

  • The Biological Research Station has one ending slide which plays as long as it is installed before completing Old World Blues. With the Courier having rediscovered the X-22 botanical garden while recovering the Botanical Research Station's personalty holotape, the Botanical Research Station will request a transfer to seed the garden, but the garden will refuse, citing a "prior commitment" to Vault 22 from before the war.[9](Cut)

Notes[]

  • When the room is fully harvested, it produces a total of 37 plant items that can be immediately exchanged for 37 Salient Green, which can in turn be cooked back into any of the 11 types of plants grown.
  • The plant conversion function will convert every applicable item in the inventory on the spot. To avoid having to reobtain any materials one does not want to be converted, one can store them in the nearby refrigerator.
  • Due to the Station's ability to convert plant matter into Salient Green in conjunction with Muggy's ability to craft empty syringes, one can craft an unlimited amount of stimpaks with a Science skill of 70 at the workbench within the Sink. The electric hot plate by the Biological Research Station can be used to convert the Salient Green into broc flower and xander root.
  • ^ (Cut) There is an alternate ending for the Biological Research Station that would have been used if it was installed, but the player character did not discover the X-22 biological garden before completing Old World Blues. This ending will never trigger in normal gameplay, since the Biological Research Station's personality holotape is located at the garden, meaning that installing the Station will always require discovering the garden's map marker.
    • In this unobtainable ending, the Biological Research Station will blow a circuit trying to seed itself after having seeded every other fertile plot of land it could access.

Bugs[]

  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Sometimes the white horsenettle plant can glitch causing it to fall right through the dirt, disappear upon touching the floor, and then spawn above the dirt- it will repeat this as long as you're in the room. If this is happening it is still possible to harvest the plant, although it will be difficult. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 At some point in the game, the Sink CIU won't refresh its shop inventory and caps; additionally, the research station won't respawn plants for harvest even after 3 in-game days.[verified]
    • The inventory and plant spawning (both initial and respawn) require the cell to be unvisited for at least three in-game days. Since this won't happen unless one repetitively waits for 24 hours outside the cell, both will nearly always appear to be broken even if they are actually working.
