[[zh:Binoculars (Fallout: New Vegas)]]

Latest revision as of 08:12, 28 February 2024

The binoculars are a "weapon" in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics

A tool that is classified as a weapon but has no offensive nor defensive qualities. When drawn, using the same zoom hotkey as for a scoped weapon will allow the player character to look through them. They have a 2.43x magnification, though due to how low that is, it is generally preferable to use a scoped weapon, if available, as some have magnifications of up to 3.5x and allow for immediate engagement of any spotted targets without needing to swap.

Locations

Notes

  • Internally, binoculars (as well as some other "utility" items like the Codac R9000) are implemented as weapons. Because of this, using the binoculars will make nearby non-player characters and companions react like a weapon is being pointed at them. This also means that they will be confiscated when entering casinos.
    • Binoculars are classed as a one-handed melee weapon in the Pip-Boy. They make the sound normally associated with melee weapons when picked up.
  • The binoculars' 2.43x-magnification is equivalent to that of the Bozar Gun Runners' Arsenal or hunting revolver.
  • Binoculars are often found in poor condition, but this does not affect their use. They can be repaired with weapon repair kits or another pair of binoculars. Binoculars do not benefit from the Jury Rigging perk as they are a completely unique item.
  • Standing and crouching affect how stable the vision is when looking through it.
    • Similarly, binoculars are the only melee weapon that is affected by the chem Steady, which reduces the scope sway when looking through them.
