Bigsley is a scribe of the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel who is added to Fallout 3 in the DLC Broken Steel.

Once the Purifier has been activated, Bigsley and a couple of neophyte scribes take up residence at Jefferson Memorial. They work on solving the problem of delivering the processed fresh water around the Capital Wasteland and provide the player with the side quests of Broken Steel, all related to the water problem. Holy Water and Protecting The Water Way and their rewards are obtained by talking to him, while The Amazing Aqua Cura can be obtained by hacking his computer.

Bigsley's personality is that of an egomaniacal jerk as revealed through his speech patterns. He constantly belittles and insults everyone around him, both his initiates and the Lone Wanderer. While it might be assumed that this is because managing the Purifier and water distribution has him overworked, talking to him reveals that he was kicked out off all three orders of scribe, after antagonizing the lead scribe of each order.

For example, his modified laser rifles resulted in the wounding of some initiates (blaming the incident on the initiates' clumsiness). After being transferred to the Order of the Shield, he antagonized Scribe Bowditch in calling his theories on armor "antiquated". He was then transferred to the Order of the Scrolls where he quickly insulted Scribe Jameson. He has also questioned Elder Lyons. In the end, he had even managed to lose the support of Scribe Rothchild who then had him transferred to the Purifier project, an assignment Bigsley feels is akin to exile. Bigsley is convinced of his genius (something no one member of the brotherhood comments on) and insinuates that Scribe Yearling was transfered to Arlington Library for similar reasons as he ended up at the purifier.

Notes

  • When visiting scribe Bigsley, several initiates can be seen waiting outside of his office. There are always initiates waiting to give their reports and will engage him in several interesting conversations that the player can listen to. Some of these interactions (especially with the Scribe who had just returned from the citadel) relate to the quest The Amazing Aqua Cura such as the implication that the water Bigsley has been selling to Griffon on the side were actually part of the shipment intended for the Citadel.
  • When inside his office, a glitch will occasionally occur after completing the side-quest, Protecting the Water Way. A stack seventeen sledgehammers can then be found outside his office (verified; however it seems that the glitch also occurs at other times and not necessarily after the completion of the side-quest)
  • Hacking his computer will allow the player to read many humorous log entries as well as notes on the success of the water distribution. However, doing so will also cause the NPCs to become hostile and thus it is advised that the player be very careful when hacking.

Appearances

Bigsley appears only in the Fallout 3 DLC Broken Steel.
