The Bering Strait is a strait that separated Alaska and the Soviet Union.[1]
Background[]
As relations broke down between the United States of America and China, the US established a military presence in Alaska to prevent an invasion across the Bering Strait.[Non-game 1] The morning of the Great War, the United States Air Force reported a squadron of suspected Chinese airplanes at high altitude over the strait.[2]
Appearances[]
The Bering Strait is mentioned in Fallout 3, the Fallout 3 Official Game Guide and Fallout 4, and was to appear in the canceled Fallout Extreme.
Behind the scenes[]
- In the real world, the Bering Strait is the name of the fifty-mile channel dividing Russia and Alaska.

- The Bering Strait is where chapter 2 of Fallout Extreme's story was to take place. Areas in this region include Libertyville, Brotherhood North American Forward Operations Base, Satellite Relay Station Tango-Echo, Alaskan Pipeline, Aleutian research station, Port Liberty, and the Last Ranger station. This region would have been occupied primarily by the Brotherhood of Steel, whom The Cause would have overtaken and destroyed through the progression of the chapter.

- ↑ Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.43: "With conditions deteriorating between the United States and China, a military presence in Alaska was established to prevent a possible invasion across the Bering Strait. With increasingly scarce oil reserves, a last deep-sea deposit below the Pacific Ocean was claimed by China before allegedly being sabotaged by American special operatives. Strained relationships spiraled downward into conflict as China marched on Alaska, and the Sino-American War of 2066—2077 erupted."
