A barge is a vehicle in Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

In Fallout: New Vegas, the barge is the vehicle used to transport the player character from the Cottonwood Cove to the Fort or vice versa. The barge is a simple vehicle comprised of eight barrels that provide floatation tied to several wooden planks that make up the body of the barge. As the barge has no propulsion, traveling up the Colorado River takes several hours.[1] The barge is operated by Cursor Lucullus, though if killed, the player character can still operate the barge themselves.

Locations[edit | edit source]

Fallout: New Vegas[edit | edit source]

  • Besides Lucullus' boat, the scavenger platform is the other source of barges in Fallout: New Vegas. The platform is made up out of 18 barges.

Fallout 4[edit | edit source]

  • Barges appear throughout the waterways of Greater Boston, mostly in the Atlantic Ocean but also along the Charles River. They cannot be operated, but they can be walked on.
  • The USS Riptide was tugging a barge full of military equipment when it crashed into a bridge during the Great War.
  • Several barges can be found around Spectacle Island, and can only be accessed by swimming to them.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

In the Mojave Wasteland, both in the game and in the real world, it is not possible to travel up the Colorado River from Cottonwood Cove to Fortification Hill due to the location of the Hoover Dam.
