Atomic cocktail is a consumable item in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics

The world model of an atomic cocktail is a novelty drink mixer shaped like a rocket ship, with a black logo on one side shaped like the words "atomic cocktail" surrounding an atom. When consumed the player is resistant to fire and energy and SLP is greatly reduced, while H2O is increased, but it also gives +8 to radiation.

This item is made at any campfire. It requires: Mentats (1), Nuka-Cola Victory (1), vodka (1) and a Science skill of 25, which makes 4 bottles of the cocktail. It is not recommended you make it yourself without the Nuka Chemist perk, as Nuka-Cola Victories are normally very rare. Atomic cocktails however can be bought at many vendors and found in many refrigerators.

Prior to patch 1.2.0.31x, atomic cocktails required an additional 1 Nuka-Cola Victory, 1 vodka, and a bottle of wine to craft.

Locations

  • Klamath Bob's liquor store (2) - In wooden crate behind store counter.
  • Occasionally found on dead Legionaires.
  • Lucky 38 presidential suite (3) - In one of the fridges the first time you enter.
  • Whittaker Farmstead - In the fridge.
  • It seems to appear randomly in refrigerators.
  • Found in most bars and some stores by buying them from the bartender(s) and/or store owner(s)

Notes

  • This item is especially useful in Hardcore mode because of its high SLP decrease.
  • Lower level characters can benefit from the resistance effects when fighting fire ants or fighting fire geckos. The energy resistance is also very helpful when fighting robots or using plasma grenades.

Behind the Scenes

The atomic cocktail was an alcoholic drink served (among other places on the strip) during nuclear weapons testing in the 1950s in Las Vegas' Sky Room, where tourists could view mushroom clouds form at the Nevada proving grounds from a distance. This was a considerable tourist draw from 1951-1963 when Las Vegas was also known as "Atomic City". Las Vegas businessmen had, at the time, a penchant for marketing everything as "atomic".
