The alien blaster is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics

It is identical in appearance to the Alien Blaster in Fallout 3. It is one of the most powerful pistols in the game, requiring only 1 strength to use effectively. It always critically hits, combined with maximum Energy Weapons it can become extremely powerful versus any enemy in the game.

Locations

The alien blaster is found just north of Horowitz Farmstead, but is only available to players that have the Wild Wasteland trait. If the Wild Wasteland trait is not chosen, the YCS/186 Gauss rifle can be found in the same spot.

The Alien Blaster is looted off of the Alien Captain, once you have killed him, along with (about) 140-250 Alien Power Cells. The Captain is aided by two other Aliens (all 3 of the Aliens use Laser weapons).

Notes

  • Be careful using this weapon at very close range if you have the meltdown perk.
  • Alien Blaster's ammo is unique, meaning those 140-250 Alien Power Cells you obtain from Alien Captain can't be found anywhere else without the use of console commands.
  • The neon blue glow of the blaster turns off when entering sneak mode.

Bugs

  • Sometimes, the Alien Captain's corpse will have the Alien Power Cells, but not the Alien Blaster itself. This can be fixed by simply reloading a save.[verification overdue]
  • You can kill ED-E with this weapon but still retain the perk ED-E gives you. Although you cannot get Rex as your new companion.[verification overdue]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 If the Alien Captain isn't with the other alien(s) for any reason, (Example: killed, ect.) and the player approaches the alien(s) (without being seen killing the captain) they will not be hostile. But cannot be interacted with, if the player leaves the area and comes back, the alien will still be there non-hostile. The player can approach the alien(s) but it won't react. It/They will remain non hostile until attacked.
  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 The player does not need to kill them from a distance, they will sometimes be non-hostile with exception to the captain, even if the captain is killed in front of them.
  • Companions may take the Alien Blaster from the Alien Captain's body.[verification overdue]
  • The Alien Captain has been known to run away and disappear when you encounter him and you will be unable to aquire the Alien Blaster. [verification overdue]
