Al Wortzik was an employee of the New Appalachian Railroad company before the Great War. He conspired with Cary Skinner and her brother to rob an armored train carrying a bank's worth of loot.

Al and Cary planned to rob an armored train carrying the contents of the New Appalachia Bank's vault.[1] On September 28, 2077, around 5 a.m., Cary and her brother were to assault the vault while Al delayed the train from his switch-tower.[1][2] The robbery ultimately failed when an explosion ended up killing Cary, her brother, along with bystanders in the bank and ticket station.[3]

Al survived the encounter and attempted to return to work and lay low, as if he had no role in the robbery. However, he failed to remove his correspondence with Cary from his terminal, implicating him in the crime. On October 1, trainyard supervisor Marlin Rellicker contacted Al and told him to head to the central office, as federal investigators were waiting to ask him some questions. He told Al to bring all of his paperwork, though his terminal entries would be unnecessary, as Marlin had already backed them up and given Al's emails to the authorities.[4][5]

Al Wortzik is mentioned only in Fallout 76.

Behind the scenesEdit

Al's name is a reference to the 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon, inspired by a real-life bank robbery. The character Sonny Wortzik is played by actor Al Pacino, and Al Wortzik's name is a combination of these two.
