Abraxodyne Chemical (commonly shortened to Abraxodyne or Abraxo) was a pre-War company which produced detergents and other cleaning-related products in the United States, and a fully owned subsidiary of RobCo Industries.[1]
Background[]
A fully owned subsidiary of RobCo Industries,[1] the company's most well-known product was Abraxo cleaner, a household detergent widely used in Washington, D.C., Boston, Appalachia and the southwest U.S. before the Great War. Its product range also included a food sanitizer designed to unlock additional nutritional value in food and beverages by removing trace bacteria.[2]
Like many other staple household names, Abraxodyne was heavily invested in marketing. One notable example was sponsoring guided tours, such as Dick Shale's tour of the Appalachian countryside. The company sponsored the tour surrounding the Colonel Kelly monument.[3]
Pittsburgh Complex[]
Abraxodyne Chemical performed research into new chemical products at their Pittsburgh facility, such as prank cyanide tablets, rodent mace, industrial grade drain cleaner, a chemical lab kit for kids, and glow in the dark hair spray.[4] The experimental hair spray was used on an employee as a prank,[5] causing scarring and requiring surgery for the employee.[6] The industrial drain cleaner was created and sent out on a "trial run" without developing a neutralizer for the product,[7] and its waste byproducts severely corroded the train cars of the Pittsburgh Union Railroad.[8] These byproducts caused at least three railroad employees to become ill,[9][10] and strained the relationship between the railroad company and Abraxodyne Chemical.[11] Eventually, the railroad company began to refuse transporting the byproducts[12][13] and Abraxodyne Chemical was forced to start storing them in their own warehouse.[8][14]
However, management at the company refused to properly supply equipment to its neutralizer research team.[15] In addition, plastic waste barrels were used instead of metal barrels to store the harmful byproducts despite the plastic barrels' tendency to leak and cause a reaction that had the potential to devastate entire city blocks.[16] Management encouraged repairing any leaking plastic barrels with adhesive tape and WonderGlue, citing "financial circumstances out of our control."[17] Eventually, the company began emptying their warehouse of the barrels[18] and illegally dumping the waste.[19]
After the Great War[]
Like other companies, Abraxodyne was scoured by the nuclear holocaust and disintegrated. The Pittsburgh complex and its lack of proper containment eventually resulted in the seals failing. The toxic runoff combined with radiation and other chemicals seeped into the ground, causing it to subside and eventually sinking an entire part of the outlying industrial district, creating The Trench.[20]
Apart from this disaster, Abraxodyne's products lived on. Abraxo remained a household name for cleaning products thanks to the sheer amount of the powder produced.[21] Even as late as 2287, Abraxo products would remain in use with many factions, eg. the Brotherhood of Steel[22] for getting blood off power armor.[23] Abraxo was also part of common expressions, eg. washing out someone's mouth.[24] It would also be used for making improvised explosives, apart from cleaning,[25] including Nuka-Cola grenades.[26]

This monument, deep in the wooded heart of.. *aside* wait where? *back to script* the heart of the Appalachian countryside, overlooking majestic Grafton lake... Graft-Town Lake? I can't read my own writing. I hate these last minute changes! Kelley raised the 1st West Virginia and became its Colonel in May of 1861. Later in June at the battle in Pilippi, uh, Philippi he was severely wounded. I like to think that the Colonel would have used Abraxo cleaning products. You can learn more about the battle at Philippi at the Philippi Battlefield Cemetery. I can't wait, to see YOU there! Ok, cut, that's it, I *recording cuts off* I think that went pretty well. Lunch here yet?"
