I think you should hang onto that sword. It'd put a smile on Granddad's face to know it was being used to help people.— Abraham Finch when he gives the shishkebab to the Sole Survivor

Abraham Finch is a farmer living at Finch farm in 2287.

Background[]

Abraham is located at Finch farm with his wife Abigail and his two sons, Daniel and Jake. There tends to often be conflict between Abraham and Jake, which is the reason his son ran away and joined the Forged.[2]

Abraham inherited an heirloom, an ignitable sword that belonged to his grandfather, but it was stolen by Jake when he ran away and joined the Forged.[1] Abraham asks the Sole Survivor to retrieve it in the quest Out of the Fire.

Interactions with the player character[]

The first time the player approaches Finch farm, Abraham will be standing guard, and will call out to them, alerted by their presence. The player will need to calm him down and decide whether or not to assist him.

Quests[]

  • Out of the Fire: Abraham's son Jake has stolen his heirloom shishkebab, and he wants it back, sending the Sole Survivor to recover it from the Forged.
  • Here There Be Monsters: If the player is currently on the stage of retrieving the dampening coil when first meeting Abraham, Abraham's conversation will instead start with him asking the player what they are doing, less hostile, and then being asked if he knows where dampening coils can be found. Abraham will say that he previously owned a dampening coil, but that it was stolen and taken to Saugus Ironworks along with his sword. Out of the Fire will then start as usual.

  • His wife refers to him using two different middle names, "Lowell" and "Francis."[5][6]
  • An unused voice type for Abraham exists in the game's files, "NPCMAbrahamFinch," though the NPC actually uses the "MaleBoston" voice type.

  1. 1.0 1.1 Abraham Finch: "That bastard son of mine, Jake, snuck out in the middle of the night to join them. He grabbed my granddad's old sword. It's the closest thing I've got to an heirloom."
    (Abraham Finch's dialogue)
  2. Abigail Finch: "I have watched you two go at it for years and tried to let you sort it out for yourselves. Abraham, your son is a grown man and if you expect him to act like one then you'd better stop treating him like a child. Jake, your father and I have been out there and we know it can be dangerous. We just want to make sure you are prepared. There. It's over. And if I hear another word about it from either of you, so help me..."
    (Abigail Finch's dialogue)
  3. Abraham Finch: "You're back huh? You uh... did you.. what happened with Jake?"
Sole Survivor: "He made his choice. It's over."
Abraham Finch: "I- I understand. Thank you for... well, thank you for trying."
    (Abraham Finch's dialogue)
  4. Abigail Finch: "Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or did that scrap heap of yours get about ten pieces of junk larger since last week?"
Abraham Finch: "What uh... what makes you think that, sweetheart?"
Abigail Finch: "Don't you play coy with me, husband. There ain't been any traders by here with that much scrap, not lately. If those gunners catch you stealin' their metal, you know what they'll do."
Abraham Finch: "You've got nothing to worry about, Abbey. I've been going there since long before those gunners took over. I know every secret tunnel, hiding spot and escape route there is. Even if they do spot me, they couldn't catch me. I'm just too smart for 'em."
Abigail Finch: "One of these days, you're going to find out that you aren't half as clever as you think you are. When that happens, it's ain't just going to be you that suffers, it's going to be all of us."
Abraham Finch: "That's enough, now. I haven't been caught yet, and I ain't going to be. That should be good enough for you."
    (Abraham Finch's dialogue)
  5. Abigail Finch: "That's why we made that rule in the first place. And I might remind you, Abraham Lowell Finch, that you agreed to it!"
    (Abigail Finch's dialogue)
  6. Abigail Finch: "Abraham Francis Finch that is enough!"
    (Abigail Finch's dialogue)
