Abandoned mine shaft 2 is a location in the Ash Heap region of Appalachia. Dropping a nuke on it will start the event Seismic Activity.

Background[]

The second in a series of abandoned mine shafts, this one was undergoing repair on the cover when the Great War happened. Years later, radiation continues to leak from the cover.

The mine shaft was a target for potential post-War mining of ultracite by people like Jack Woodhouse.[1][2] However, something much more sinister lurks beneath this unassuming location: the Ultracite Titan, a horribly mutated mole rat with some sort of connection to the mole miners found at the mine shaft.[3] The monster lurks beneath the mine shaft, and those who encountered the titan say it would take a nuke to get rid of it.[4]

Layout[]

Entering from the west, the player character will first encounter a blue pod cluttered with containers and some loot. Proceeding through a door to the east and up a staircase leads to a second blue pod. This one has more containers, including two searchable chem containers, and additional loot. A southern door leads to the top of a refinery adjacent to both pods.

With the Nuka-World on Tour update, ultracite crystals were placed all around the mine shaft to reflect it being the home of the Ultracite Titan. Mole miners may also appear here, battling various strikebreaker robots. When nuked from the Appalachian Automated Launch System in Mission: Countdown, it will start the event Seismic Activity at Nuka-World on Tour as the nuke will have disturbed the Ultracite Titan and forced it to surface.
