“I try not to worry about them, but we have had no news for so long, and Daniel seems sad when I ask him about it. Sad... and a little frightened.”— Waking Cloud
After completing Deliverer of Sorrows by bringing the requested supplies to him, Daniel states that the Sorrows huntress Waking Cloud wants to travel with the Courier as a companion; while this is an optional choice in general, the dialogue trigger for this quest will be unavailable until she is recruited.
While she is an active companion, the option will be available to ask Waking Cloud about her family. She remarks fondly on them, but then states her belief that Daniel is withholding information from her about the state of her family after they were evacuated from Zion Canyon and asks the Courier to speak with Daniel about the matter.
If one presses the topic when talking with him in the Narrows, Daniel admits that while Waking Cloud's children survived their exodus, her husband did not after dying protecting them from a White Legs attack. Daniel wishes to keep this secret from Waking Cloud, as he fears that her resultant grief will render her useless during their struggle against the raiders. One will have three distinct options for resolving the matter, of which will have no notable effect on the remainder of add-on quests but will affect the ending for Waking Cloud:
Go through with telling Waking Cloud the truth of her husband's fate.
Lie to Waking Cloud about her husband, incurring Karma loss
One can also promise Daniel that they will not disclose the truth to Waking Cloud, closing off further dialogue options pertaining to the quest, and making it impossible to complete.
