* In Fallout: New Vegas at Mick & Ralph's, there is what looks to be a Mauser pistol in the locked-up cage of Mick's "Special Inventory" up in the top right corner, though it is not a usable item in any form and is there only for show. Though the Mauser and Chines pistols look extremely similar, canon would institute that this would more than likely a Mauser (found in the west) rather than Chinese pistol found in Fallout 3 (in the east). This is also supported by some textural and coloring differences between the two.

A Mauser M/96 in 9x19mm Parabellum. In excellent condition. Extremely accurate.

The 9mm Mauser is a very rare small gun. So rare that only one is obtainable in Fallout, but they are slightly more common in Fallout 2, though still very rare.

It uses 9mm ball in Fallout and 9mm or 9mm ball in Fallout 2.

Characteristics

The 9mm is an odd weapon. It has 2 less maximum damage than the Colt 6520, 3 less hexes worth of range, and 5 less rounds in its top-loading feeder. 9mm rounds are also rare and ineffective compared to 10mm rounds. It does have a +20% to-hit because it's "extremely accurate", but that doesn't really make up for its sub-par performance.

Behind the scenes

  • This firearm is the Mauser C96, nicknamed the "Broomhandle". The Mauser pistol was originally manufactured in 7.63mm and a contract of 9mm versions were made for the Imperial German army in the first world war. Though faint, the "Red 9" that denotes 9mm Mausers can be seen on the handle.
  • The 9mm Mauser's file name is GIZGUN1.frm in the game files, as a testament to its rarity and sole location in Fallout.
