98 NAR Regional is a location in the Savage Divide region of Appalachia. The location is situated north of New Appalachian Central Trainyard.

Background[]

The site of a terrifying railway accident, the 98 New Appalachian Railroad Regional transport collided with a military train carrying weapons and robots, with several derailed train cars blocking the roadway through the mountains, having collided with east and westbound cars and buses. The crash site spans a section of the Blue Line railway, and across Highway 63 over to the woodlands to the east.[1]

Layout[]

The area consists of two derailed trains running north to south. A central area is flanked by two rows of derailed traincars. Bisected by the four-lane Highway 63, rows of derelict cars are lined up on both sides. On the west side of the roadblock, half of a bus can be found.

A military train car on the west side sits atop a rocky outcrop, the car accessible from below. The interior was used as a residence, and contains loot, a Vault-Tec bobblehead, and a level 2 safe. Multiple hostile robots are encountered here, including a sentry bot alongside Eyebots and Mister Gutsy. In the overturned red car at the northern end of the wreckage, the quest item RCX01-A39 duplexer can be found.

Notable loot[]

  • Potential Vault-Tec bobblehead - Inside an overturned military train car on the west side of the tracks, accessed via the underside, on a small book cabinet near the bed.
  • Potential magazine - Inside the overturned military train car lying on top of two other train cars, accessed via the underside, on a patterned couch.
  • RCX01-A39 duplexer - Quest item, in the overturned red car at the northern end of the wreckage.

"The northern end of the railyard features even more mangled metal: train carriages, including those carrying military supplies; cargo carriages; containers; and road traffic. All of this is snarled up in a large and slowly rusting maze. Check under one of the balanced carriages for a hidey-hole."
