For the overview of railguns throughout the Fallout series, see Railgun.

Gametitle-VB.pngThe following is based on Van Buren and is not canon.

The 15mm ARTEMIS rail gun is a weapon that was to appear in Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios. It also appears in the Van Buren tech demo game files.

Artemis was an unfinished weapons project by Poseidon Energy and the Enclave, designed as a late-game weapon that could be crafted by characters with a high Science skill,[Non-canon 1] using schematics from Mesa Verde.[Non-canon 2]

ARTEMIS was a weapon that could be constructed by science-oriented characters. Schematics for the rail gun could be found in Mesa Verde.[1]

While it doesn't appear in the Van Buren tech demo, it is still present in the game files and can be spawned with the console command CreateEntity Weapons15mm_Artemis_railgun.wea, but remains a non-functional weapon.

  • Even when fully loaded, the gun may not fire. The player will simply reload the gun and face the intended target, never firing.
  • J.E. Sawyer's Fallout PnP doesn't mention Artemis and 15mm EC ammunition as present in its world (15mm EC reference was accidental). Rail guns were mentioned in connection with its technology level and Advanced Research perk only.
  • The Advanced Research perk helps to make rail guns - weapons of technology level 8 (as well, as energy weapons, and power armors).

Behind the scenes

In Greek Mythology, Artemis was the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and archery, daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo.
