10mm is a type of ammunition in Fallout.

Characteristics[]

The 10mm is the most common ammo found in the wasteland. The JHP is intended to shoot low-armored targets, while AP gives more power to cut through armor but has lower overall damage.

Variants[]

There are two variants of 10mm ammunition. Ammunition modifiers are not applied at all in the Fallout engine, which makes the 10mm equal to any other kind of ammunition and both JHP and FMJ versions functionally identical.

  • 10mm AP (Ammunition. Caliber: 10mm, armor piercing.)
  • 10mm JHP (Ammunition. Caliber: 10mm, jacketed hollow-points.)

Behind the scenes[]

I picked 10mm since it wasn't popular, had been tested by the FBI at one point (and found lacking), but it was basically a gun nut (which I am one) kind of round. .45 might have made more sense, but I was looking for something with a little twist.Chris Taylor
  • The above quote comes from a Duck and Cover interview. Chris Taylor also stated that 10mm was "standard ammo for the BATF" as "the military was into energy weapons."[1]
  • Joshua Sawyer deliberately asked designers to place 10mm weapons predominantly in Vaults and 9mm weapons out in the wasteland, as he thought 10mm weapons to be more "Vaulty" or futuristic in his mind.[2]

Yes. 10mm weapons seemed more "vaulty"/futuristic in my mind. "
