I’ve always wanted to do a full playthrough, but the first time I tried it I was having a lot of fun (playing with WSG) and I got to around when the Enclave show up, and then it hit me. Is it even possible for the Lone Wanderer to be the Courier?
On August 17, 2077 the LW leaves Vault 101. He would then need to complete at least the main quest of Fallout 3 and whatever else canonically happens in the game—in a very short time. It would have to happen before the end of the year, because future events the Courier takes part in happen sometime in 2077. The First Battle of Hoover Dam takes place in 2077, and the events at the Divide take place before that. So as a 19 year old he would have to then immediately take the train to Las Vegas. After he arrives (probably wouldn’t take more than like 3 days I think), he must immediately leave Vegas for the Divide, which shouldn’t take more than about 3 more days traveling on foot.
The LW comes upon a small community clinging to life within the storm-covered lands on the edges of the former American territory. For whatever reason, he decides to brave the seasons and storms to deliver packages to the community, trekking the hard road repeatedly, giving them hope and a connection to civilization. This must happen in a very short time, as there are only a few months left in the year, if that.
Due to this, the community begins to thrive, causing the NCR to move in and make it a major secondary route into the Mojave helping to reduce the traffic along the Long 15 to the Core Lands of the NCR. Then Caesar dispatches a group of frumentarii and assassins to cut the supply line and deny the road to the NCR.
Then at some point, the LW comes with a delivery of a package from Navarro, recovered by the NCR and sent with him to the Divide. He leaves the area soon after completing the delivery, unaware that the package would go on to transmit detonation codes to multiple pre-War nuclear missile silos beneath the area. The missiles, trapped in the decayed silos, explode underground and destroy the community. Again this must all happen very quickly, as soon the First Battle of Hoover Dam happens.
I suppose all that is possible, but ultimately unlikely that the LW could do all that in so little time, in my opinion. Which is why it’s hard to roleplay. Nevertheless it is POSSIBLE. Which is why I do plan to play TTW again sometime soon (with WSG or if I’m feeling masochistic, Uranium Fever). Does anyone else think this is kinda far-fetched or contrived? Don’t get me wrong it does sound awesome for it to be connected this way. I guess the LW is just built different. He finishes FO3 in a like a month, and then immediately heads to the Divide for some reason.
Assuming the LW is the Courier, then for the next 4 years, he travels extensively across New California, such as on the Long 15 to Primm, to Circle Junction, New Reno, Vault City, Fort Abandon and on brahmin drives at the Big Circle. He also travels to Utah at one point. He could’ve also traveled to other places during this time.
Finally, in October 2281, the now 23 year old man takes a job from the Mojave Express and is elected the one to carry the platinum chip after Ulysses backed out. The Courier travels from southern NCR, through the Hub to reach the Mojave, and makes his way to the Goodsprings area, unaware they were walking into a trap. COOL
