Would the borders be the Mojave, or just the city? If it’s the latter, then the NCR could just annex the surrounding areas no? And would House enforce a currency? Maybe I’m just overthinking it.

That’s a good idea! Thx y’all!
@MadMikeRyan do you think this looks somewhat better? Based off your comment moving it down closer to Westpoint. Could say the two military groups connected via the waterways.
@TheAppalachian is there any ideas you think would work good for this? I think a suitable flag would be the existing Albany flag.
I’ve been trying to create a believable, sorta lore-friendly large faction, similar to the NCR. I’m not trying to copy the existing group, but just have a similar nation-state.
I started writing down notes and ideas I wanted to share; it would have borders somewhat like this -
Founded from the survivors of the war in Albany and the surrounding areas, along with the surviving military personnel that were stationed at the Watervliet Arsenal and the Saratoga Springs Navy Base. It took a decade or two following the war for the city to rebuild, and about fifty to become a strong settlement city. Because of its hub of trade, it became prosperous and began to expand to the surrounding areas. Following the events of Fallout 4, expeditionary forces traveled over the Taconic Mountain range, which had prevented them from expanding east, and small groups traveled throughout the region to see what civilization existed.
This is just the ideas I came up with, it’s essentially the opposite of another faction I came up with a year ago (and also posted the idea on here). While the Albany faction is more lawfully good, the Republic of Rhode Island is a military junta that the Gunners originated from.
I would love to hear some ideas or concepts you find interesting!
^ thx for the help! Much appreciated
In real-life, battalions are about 1,000 troops. In the lore, the NCR sent three battalions to the Mojave. So did they send 3,000 troops or is it a smaller size?
Apologies if this is very menial, working on something and I like to have realism in my work!
This is referring to the Republic that is in Fallout New Vegas, not Fallout 2. In the lore, the republic is made up of several states (Dayglow, Maxson, etc). Does each state have their own police or is it a unified faction throughout? Like how in present day, each state has their own police department(s).
I’m probably overthinking this a lot, so my apologies in advance.
I’m not too knowledgeable with the NCR lore. The Rangers were a separate group, so did the NCR have elite soldiers/commandos? Or do the Rangers play that role for the military?
^ a written short story, I wrote one before about what happened post-Fallout 4 and the struggling start of the new CPG. It isn’t all that different to me, but I’m still excited!
@Saxhleel12 I had ideas of less-violent operations, like a ship being sent down to see what happened to the Panama Canal, or a expedition up to Portland.
The premise is a hybrid of political drama and realistic combat. In 2283, two years following the NCR victory at Hoover dam, the founder of a “New California Military Solutions” (a PMC company that employs ex-military), is blackmailed by higher-ups in the government to use his troops for their highly dubious/illegal operations that require discretion. Some examples I came up with are:
1) Eliminating a growing insurgency in the newly formed sixth state, New Vegas.
2) Eliminating the remaining crime families in New Reno.
3) Clearing the area of Baja so the military can pull the troops from the region.
4) Other secret tasks that cannot be revealed due to security reasons.
It would be split between the PMC founder (a older man named Thomas Hark) trying to work his way out of the blackmail in the modernizing Shady Sands, and the PMCs going about these operations.
Thoughts?
Is there police? What comes to mind is just normal living, but there aren’t many white-collar jobs.
It’s canon that they have their trains up-and-running, but what do they use to make them run? Coal?
^ considering the technological part, I don’t think all boats would use electronic components. Hell, they didn’t use them in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries when they were more prevalent. Also, couldn’t one just build a boat? I see an region like some parts of Appalachia, abundant in wood and materials needed to build naval craft. I see your points though, I’m not trying to be rude to you in anyway.
I was thinking about it, wouldn’t you see more like sailboats and older naval ships on the water? Or steamships, because you could burn fuel like wood to power it? I remember that’s how they powered the train in Metro: Exodus. It’d be cool to see in a future game potentially.
Thoughts?
I’m going to sum up a long series of posts in short; basically, the Gunners originate from a growing nation founded from military remnants along Rhode Island. The instituted martial law but due to the lack of a high-ranking leadership, they formed a military dictatorship, with the justification being to protect civilians from bandits, mutants and other dangers. They exist under the name of the Republic of Rhode Island (and surrounding areas.) The “Gunners” were originally a force sent to secure more space for settlers in the south of the Commonwealth, but because they weren’t under the watchful eye of the military junta they turned into militaristic raiders.
I use the NCR as a base for it. If I recall, they have around 700,000 in the general size of California, plus a bit of Oregon? So, using that, I decided to have the RRI population be at about 45,000. Is that logical or believable? It’s been a while and I’ve done some reworks, so I’d appreciate any criticism, comments, etc.

Not like, swashbucklers from Black Flag, but like raiders with boats pillaging the coastal settlements. It’d be interesting for a faction, almost like Libertalia?
Not the movie.
But like, I’m aware the Boomers had the bomber and the BoS had the airship, and vertibird are pretty abundant (?). The NCR had the train(?) to transport goods to that quarry, and had vehicles too? And that steamboat guy. Those are the only examples I know, but is it believable for more vehicles to be used?
I thougjt it’d cool for like it almost to go reverse in time and see like a biplane flying overhead, since you can just make it outta cloth and don’t need electricity…? I’m not a big historian so I am most likely mistaken.
If you took a laser rifle or a gauss rifle, or a plasma caster, and shot it at someone, would it just melt them immediately? I’m a sucker for realism so I wanna just try and understand the science behind it.
^ I just wanted to say thank you, that is a great idea that I’ll implement. I appreciate it very much lol, this is why I come here for feedback!!
