^ Caesar is a 55 year old man in a wasteland with a brain tumor and has outlawed any form of modern medicine including stimpacks and the closest thing they have to doctors is a woman who makes healing powder inefficiently and a broken autodoc with only one place to find the specific parts needed to fix it. His second in command is a bloodthirsty psychopath who doesn't give a single fuck about the legion and only cares about Caesar. House predicts that the legion will crumble into dozens of different tribes through infighting within a year after his death. I don't think the NCR has to worry about the legion at all. It's quite literally only a matter of time before they get back to expanding north and west.

^ No shit. Alright, well the basic idea of fascism ie highly militarized, oppressive, strict, orderly, and safe applies very well the the PKs. We just don't know a lot about them other than that. Even less about the opposition factions. But Chris Avellone worked on It for the first 5 years up until his allegations so I doubt it's a black and white decision. I just wanted some unbiased statistics to look at and see where the plurality is. Now I just have to figure out if those who believe it's justified, but not necessary would side with them bssed on that answer.

Some people think "if there's anything I don't like, it's fascist". Others think "If it's racist, it's fascist". Many people believe that all fascism is Nazism, however it's the other way around. Mussolini had a Jewish wife and he protected immigrant rights until Germany pressured Italy to become anti Semitic, as it wasn't previously. Oppressive, absolutely, but "at least the trains ran on time".

I wanted to ask this question because in Dying Light 2, there's a faction called the Peacekeepers. In the game, they are very strict and oppress those who go against their ideology. However, the streets are much safer, cleared of the zombies, and people are given clean drinking water for free in a place with damn near none. If you look at their rules, they aren't unreasonable either, just strictly enforced. As one of the last holdouts of humanity, "The City" is also the largest. My question is if it's morally correct to install absolute law and order to preserve the last remnants of humanity, or if that'll lead to infighting that could wipe out the last of the humans.

The game isn't out, yet, but that's really all we know about them.

Yes. There are npcs. There have been for a while. It's much better than 2018 version.

^ It seems people get hooked up on the "necessary" part. I simply mean that "necessary" = "is probably best". And ofc you need more details, but the fact that I stated "in general" is all you really need. It's not to overthink, but make a quick judgment based on the government structure. And applying the legion to the argument completely defeats the entire point of the question. The legion isn't the only authoritarian state, nor is it purely authoritarian with no other characteristics. Not every single authoritarian state enslaved half the population and commits genocide. Can it happen? Yes. Will it happen "in general". No. I enjoyed your perspective, though.

^ Exactly. Democracy is meant for the status quo. You dont want a status quo where 50% of you population make less than $1.30 per day. An authoritarian can be used to slingshot your state into a developed country. Much like Singapore, Chile, and China. One could argue Turkey too, to an extent. But at that point, a transition to Democracy is moral and just as the vote of the governed is exactly that. That's just how I feel though.

Fallout is much more complicated as we already have established states like the NCR, and potentially the Great Khans/Followers alliance that aren't authoritarian between 112 and ~214 years after The bombs dropped respectively as opposed to say just 15 years. Authoritarianism in a safe world vs liberty in a shit world are usually the dilemmas that pop up in post apocalypse games because they're both strong and opposing ideologies. That's why I asked this question. Plus I'm just waiting for Dying Light 2 to come out with the same dilemma.

^ Yes as I simplified, if there's a large importance on military and there's a clear, steep hiarchy like a dictatorship, it is authoritarian.

Necessary, not justified: Temporary Authoritarianism, but you don't have to like it.

Justified, not necessary: Understandable and ok, but there's other options.

Assume that by "Authoritarianism" I mean something like extremely strict, militarily strong place. To avoid any categorization.
