What do you see as the turning point against the Institute?

Personally, I see it as the PC talking negatively to Father after the Battle of Bunker Hill, but I was wondering what others thought?

What is the morally best way to be banished from the institute?

Is it by refusing Father or after the Battle for Bunker Hill?

Institute

So, I just finished Institutionalized, and I want to get X6-88 as a companion and Bunker Hill as a settlement. But I want to side with either the Railroad or the Commonwealth Minutemen. Can I complete The Battle of Bunker Hill and Mankind - Redefined and still be able to continue on the other factions’ quest lines? Can I even complete Synth Retention?
