Think about it: a massive sprawling doomsday bunker meant for the elites, possibly with aliens involved. The murals on the walls IRL could be changed to depict nuclear war or something.
Name: Fallout Mile-High
Setting: Colorado Front Range (Boulder-Denver area,) referred to in-universe as “The Mile-High” post-war. A unique feature of the setting would be its annual “nuclear winters.”
Story summary: You play as “The Raider,” part of a roaming band that decides to set up shot in the ruins of Denver airport. The group discovers a massive vault underground, much more complex and sprawling than the others (yes I based this on the DIA conspiracy theories.) While exploring the vault, your Raider group is ambushed by intelligent Super Mutants (a new faction I’ll explain below.) You are the only survivor. You are motivated to seek revenge on the Mutants for killing who were basically your family, your brothers in arms, but of course the plot will get more complicated as time goes on…
Factions
Hangdogs: A local tribe based in the outskirts of Denver that have tamed the local wild dog population, and see them as spirit animals. They are at war with Caesar’s Legion.
Caesar’s Legion: If you’ve played New Vegas, you know who they are. They are in the process of expanding into much of Colorado, wishing to assimilate the Hangdogs and their dog-mastering abilities into their ranks.
The Barbarians: (Unlike the other factions which are based on Van Buren, this is my own original idea.) A group of intelligent Super Mutants, led by one who calls himself Grognak. They are convinced that the events of the Grognak the Barbarian comics are true, treating the books as holy scripture. Grognak sends all his minions to construct a worthy kingdom for the Corsair Queen to inherit by expanding their territories and converting as many humans into Super Mutants as they can by injecting them with FEV, which they view as a sort of holy nectar gifted to them by the Queen. If you set The Raider’s gender to female, you can convince Grognak that you are the Corsair Queen.
Keepers of the Dome: The scientists and other inhabitants of the Boulder Dome research facility. Very little is known about them, similar to F4’s Institute.
Brotherhood of Steel: Their presence in the Mile-High is minimal at first, only sending in scouts on behalf of the Midwest Brotherhood to see if the area has any good military hardware left behind. But the discovery of the Boulder Dome will likely change that…
Children of Atom: (Another original idea of mine.) A local sect of the Children of Atom has formed around a new mountain created from the nuclear detonations that destroyed most of the former Rocky Mountains in the area. This so-called “Mount Atomia” is a holy place for them.
Salvagers: Former prisoners from the New California Republic, sent to Denver as part of a work-release program where they send valuable salvage back to the NCR in exchange for their eventual freedom.
Key Locations
Vault 100: The vault beneath Denver Airport. Designated as the 100th in honor of Colorado being the “Centennial State.”
Denver Airport: The biggest commercial airport in the U.S, which hides dark government secrets under its surface.
Dog City: Formerly known as Denver. Has been taken over by the Barbarians, Hangdogs, and Caesar’s Legion.
Arena of Choosing: Formerly the Colorado Rockies stadium, turned into a gladiatorial arena by the Barbarians where new members are tested in combat to determine their roles. Overseen by “The Companions,” named after Grognak’s companions in the Ruby Ruins Pip-Boy game.
Ghouls’ Row: Formerly the U.S 36 Highway between Boulder and Denver, packed with cars full of people trying to flee Denver’s New Plague outbreak when the bombs dropped, turning many of them into Feral Ghouls.
Dome City: Once known as Boulder, where many scientific advancements were made in the fields of power armor and space exploration, named after the giant Dome research facility that survived the bombs.
And several others.
This post has gone on long enough as is, but I didn’t know where else to put it. I’ve posted simpler versions of this idea here on a previous account that I forgot the login info for, but this one’s a little more refined. Let me know your thoughts.
I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but I can't find any real consensus and would like to hear some opinions.
As we know, Caesar's Legion definitively stretches from Denver to the Colorado River. But how far east does it go? Is Denver right on the border? How far into New Mexico have they gone?
My working theory is that Interstate 25 roughly represents the eastern border of the Legion. It runs south through Denver, Colorado and Albuquerque, New Mexico. This then creates more questions. How far north and south do they go? Have they extended up from Denver into Wyoming? Maybe they've pushed north to Interstate 80, or maybe they've gone further, or maybe they haven't pushed north at all. And again, how far south have they gone? Assuming I-25 is the eastern border, then they probably have El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Then again, these are probably important locations but are never mentioned.
I’ve had this idea written down for a while, an idea about a Fallout game taking place somewhere that isn’t the East or West Coast or the Mojave, and a place to experience a “nuclear winter.” A lot of this is based on Van Buren’s stuff, aka the cancelled Fallout 3, as well as my own ideas. Don’t remember if I’ve posted about it before but if not, here it is. Open to constructive criticism.
Name: Fallout 5 (if numerical sequel,) Fallout: Mile High (spin-off name.)
Location
The “Mile High,” aka former Colorado Front Range and Rocky Mountains. Name based on similar logic behind naming of the Commonwealth in F4 (Commonwealth of Massachusetts) and Capital Wasteland (D.C being the capital of the USA) in F3. I’d figure Denver being known as the “Mile-High City” might stick in some form even after the Great War, leading to the region being called the Mile High. Alternative name could be “The Range” based on the Front Range but imo that name isn’t as catchy.
Location Backstory
The Mile High was once known as the state of Colorado within the Four-States Commonwealth of the USA. Before the war Denver was a major industrial center, supporting the nearby major scientific center in Boulder. That center was known as the Boulder Dome, a massive scientific research facility overshadowing the city that worked in collaboration with the University of Colorado, IBM, and Ball Aerospace. It was here that Boulder scientists made advances in medicine (bio med gel was invented here), alternate energy sources, robotics, and even developed a power armor prototype. Construction of the research dome was not considered until the nearby Rocky Mountain Arsenal had a leakage of toxic waste, creating a poisonous cloud that swept through Denver, killing many. In reaction, the military funded a program to create a self-sustaining research dome, making it resistant to a nuclear attack and having the primary research inside be dedicated to the New Plague. This "city of the future" was to be a prototype for settlements on the moon and other planets.
When the Sino-American War began, food rationing was imposed upon the general region. In addition, an unemployment crisis hit due to a lack of resources. The situation came to a head when food imports from Mexico and the Great Midwest Commonwealth stopped, and food riots consumed the city. The National Guard was called in to brutally quell the unrest. An outbreak of New Plague worsened the situation, with rioters setting large portions of the city on fire. This caused Denver citizens to evacuate by car along the I-25 Highway to Boulder, but the traffic jammed and froze while en route. By the time the bombs fell, Denver was already in complete chaos.
The city of Colorado Springs was the site of a major breakout of the New Plague. Numerous robot production factories were concentrated around the city.
After the bombs fell (of which there were many there,) the former Colorado Front Range was reduced to complete rubble. The skyscrapers of downtown Denver still stand along with the Capitol Building, but the city itself eventually became infested by wild dogs. As the years went by and surviving humans began to settle the area, Denver earned the nickname “Dog City.” Nearby Boulder was nearly gone, but the Dome stood strong as intended, giving Boulder the new name “Dome City.” Finally, nearby Colorado Springs remained infested by the New Plague, giving it the name of “The Plaguelands.”
Factions
• Caesar’s Legion: Hoping to annex Colorado and tame the feral dog population. The detachment in Colorado is led by Legate Lanius.
• Midwestern BoS: Mostly just regular visitors, but they hope to break into the Boulder Dome to steal technology.
• Boulder Scientists: An elusive and secluded faction from pre-War, working on some sort of scientific research. No one knows very much about them or if they’re even still alive since the Dome has been closed off for centuries.
• Grognak’s Barbarians: A war-mongering yet surprisingly intelligent tribe of Super Mutants led by self-named Grognak, these Mutants nested up in the former skyscraper in Denver belonging to Hubris Comics. They base their beliefs, culture, and social hierarchy on the lore of Grognak The Barbarian.
• Children of Atom: You know who they are. They have settled on one of the few mountains spared from the nuclear blasts and named it Mount Atom, though it’s speculated that it used to be Pike’s Peak.
• Salvagers: Prisoners of the New California Republic sent to collect resources to bring back to the homeland.
• Raiders: You know who they are. The main character used to be one of them.

• Mount Atom
• Dome City (Boulder)
• Boulder Metro
• The Dome
• I-25: the former main highway in Colorado, now littered with rusted cars and Feral Ghouls.
• Mesa Verde

Story
The player character is a Raider who originally is with a gang looting Vault 29 beneath the Denver Capitol Building when they are suddenly ambushed by an advanced Super Mutant tribe named Grognak’s Barbarians. While the rest of your Raider gang is killed, you manage to escape but it’s because a part of the Vault collapses, separating you from the Barbarians. You are trapped, but find a pristine Pip-boy in a container, which you use to send a distress signal.
After some time passes, you begin hearing voices beyond the collapsed rubble. Eventually, the wreckage is cleared by NCR Salvagers, who you can choose to either befriend or attack. Whichever path you choose, you are able to escape the Vault, emerging in downtown Denver. You can either seek revenge on the Barbarians for killing your friends, or forge a different path. The story and various side quests would help shine more light on what happened to the central USA since we mostly only know about the East and West coasts.
